As a fan, I too long for the day that we raise the premiership trophy, but I reckon it’s a very narrow minded view to think that a head coach’s job description consists of a one line “win the comp”.
Tallis hit the nail on the head after the game. The coach gets them to the finals and now it's out of his hands. The players have the tools to win, and they need to put it all together on the field. It's all about their decisions under pressure, not the coach.

Credit where credit's due. I've been critical of Arthur at times with his bench selections and usage, and the team's occasional flatness and lack of apparent motivation.

But tonight, when an elusive final 4 finish was again on the line, the team stood up and delivered. I can't be critical of the team's strategy, effort, performance or delivery... and since Arthur has finally met his KPI for that final 4 finish, I'm also changing my vote tonight to "Yes" (i.e. happy for Arthur to now serve out his current contract).

But the coach still has responsibility during finals for motivation, ensuring the team is switched on for game day, ready to use the tools and put it all together the way they need to against the opposition they face.

To argue it's all up to the players (or all up to the coach) is very simplistic... but - Tallis.

Brad Arthur critics are left red faced as the Parramatta Eels make the Preliminary Finals in the National Rugby League.

Preliminary finals was a pass mark.

Let's play for 80 mins next week and see what happens.

If it's similar to the 2005 score then tonight is irrelevant.

No I think that's on the senior players. That's why Bennett said the captain is more important than the coach.
