Yes of course. Like any battery it's pot luck. Some will last 3yrs and others 10yrs.And without notice I assume. Just one day they won't charge like Any other lithium battery. But one things for certain after every single charge you will lose a little bit of efficiency. You won't notice it in the first year or two but after 3 or 4 you certainly will

I read somewhere that the batteries account for roughly 50% of the car cost.

A lot needs to happen for Electric cars to be a viable solution. Especially for large trade companies and delivery services.

Sam shows up at a revival meeting seeking help. “I need you to pray for my hearing,” he tells the preacher.
The preacher puts his fingers on Sam’s ears and prays and prays. When he’s done he asks, “How’s your hearing now?”
“I don’t know,” says Sam. “I don’t go to court until next Tuesday.”

Studies by Recurrent, a company that researches and tracks battery life EVs, reveal an estimated 5% decrease in range from 50,000 to about 200,000 miles. This means a 5-10% decrease in capacity in the first five years.

On the other hand, Geotab, a company that provides web-based analytics for fleets, found that EV batteries lose about 2.3% of their energy capacity annually. This would put them on track to outlast the vehicles they’re put in.

Notably, there are also warranties for the various EV batteries meaning you can get a battery replaced or repaired if it’s losing its capacity too fast. Tesla, for instance, offers at least an eight-year or 100,000 miles warranty for its Tesla Model 3 RWD battery and will replace it if the capacity drops below 70% within this period.

Yes but 22Kw is 90Amps single phases or 30Amps three phase.
How many houses have 3 phase? Majority won't
A 50Kw charger? Thats 200amps

the larger ones are for commercial buildings, the 7 kw are for domestic use

How many unit blocks have enough power at the blocks onr on streets to have these? I've worked at plenty of units. Some only have 32A total and most have 40A. Imagine a 7kw charger (30A)

We generally design them for 60-80 amps now days assuming they are single phase. 30 amps won't power a range/cooker, HWU, and an Air Conditioner. A lot of new units are electric instantaneous as there is no space for storage and instantaneous is considered energy efficient as you dont have a heat element cycling on and off 24/7 or during off peak hours

I imagine the larger chargers will be powered from BC power and pay as you go.

The grid will hangle a lot more now too with the incease in PV on most rooves, its not like it used to be.

Lithiun-ion Batteries can last for 15-20 years.

Yes newer ones sure but existing older town houses and units have 32-40Amps.

Anyhows I suspect there will be charging stations with super fast charger in 10yrs time that will charge your car in 10mins or less.

I reckon some batteries can last 15yrs. While others wil shit themself in 4yrs. I have a boat battery that's been good for 15yrs and have had ones die in 2yrs. I dont think batteries have a consistent time frame at all. Also the efficient dies.
Some say about 3% a year. Based on battery tools I'd say 10%. After about 5yrs most are rat shit and don't give the same Amp hours.

Anyhows it's a band aid solution. And just let's wealthy people feel good about themself by getting an electric car to save the planet while batlers need to find 40k to purchase one.

Issue is - Capitalism and consumerism along with population growing to sustain the economy and people wanting to have exciting lifestyles.

Reduce population, stop building shit products that last 5yrs and need replacing. Change people's mid sets on living lives of wanting new things. The whole system needs a reset.
