Well, the Liberal Party didn't start to even exist in NSW until 1945... so that's hardly something they (you) can claim is a decision they were opposed to.

* In 1939, just as World War II was breaking out, the first tram line — the Manly system — was closed.
* During the 1940s the NSW Government commissioned experts from London to write a report on Sydney's public transport system.
* The report, put together by London Transport executives GF Sinclair, AF Andrews and ER Ellen, recommended [in 1949] the total closure of the Sydney tram network in phases, by 1960.
* By 1961 the last tramline closed and with that marked the end of Sydney's affair with the tram.
