Given the issues with Ramsay and MC Hammer i would go hard after Taaffe. He is behind Mitchell/cook/ilias/walker at the bunnies so can't get properly paid. He is young with plenty of upside. Throw proper cash at him and there is no way the bunnies can keep him. Article today saying bunnies will be using him as a utility only.

Certainly not the worst recruitment proposal I have read recently. Taafe has a fair bit of upside to him.

If he can play prop sign him. As Ayios says, we don’t need another back/utility. Surprised Dogs haven’t added him to their collection.
I worry about Sloan at the back. If he has improved his defensive skills and improved his ability to take the high ball under pressure, then he is with a go in first grade. Otherwise, he is just a Dufty mark II.

At the moment it looks like Ramsey is out long-term so signing TAFFE is probably our best option right now. However, we do have some other young juniors coming through and so, I would not be looking to sign Taffe long-term but rather extend a short-term contract if he does well.

Mitchell will be injured/suspended for half the season again, so Taaffe will likely get more game time over there than here

All the more reason we should sign Taffe. We are in a situation where we really do not know how Sloan will go or if/when Ramsey is to play in 2023. Surely, with regards to Ramsey, we can apply to the NRL for cap relief given the uncertainty of Ramsey's fitness to play.

Most likely, Souths are paying him unders. Make a decent offer and at least Souths will have to match the offer to keep him.

Possm,
In regards to Sloan ,I agree that last year at fullback he was a long way off first grade standard. Particularly defensively and under high ball. But seemed better on the wing.
Ramsay seemed to be growing in confidence as the year progressed and will be sorely missed.
Taafe is a classy young player who has played most of his football in the halves. He has played a little bit of fullback in 1st grade , but also has some deficiencies in defence.
If Amone was to be missing long term then a Sullivan / Taafe halves combination in the future could be something to watch

Taaffe has a fair bit of Adam Quinlan about him. Decent back up but not a top 17 player if you're attempting to be a serious football team. Money could be better spent elsewhere trying to get players who can change the tone of a game. Manu, Mitchell, Leota, Asofa Solomona, Hamlin Uele, Staggs, Fifita

Seen a bit of Treigh Stewart last year .Has come on really well and can handle fullback and wing
Thinking we are better still trying to nail a decent prop and second rower
Still fairly well off for backs
Your last paragraph is spot on . Stewart is worst than Sloan in defence and has a much smaller body.

There is a skill set for full-back-like every other position on the field- but I would argue that full-back has evolved into a very difficult position and that even the best make the mistakes that we accuse Dufty, Sloan et al of making. I've seen Tedesco and Gutherson- and not just once- miss makeable tackles on try scorers on their goal line and no one makes a fuss about it simply because we know that overall, they are excellent players playing in a really tough position.
Personally, I take the view that we are probably going to be two quality first grade backs down in 2023- and possibly beyond 2023 as well. Taafe would provide the necessary competition for Sloan and possibly a long-term option for 5/8 outside Sullivan when Hunt retires-Mbye, for mine, is no more than a stop gap player in any position and there are no other quality players in our squad to challenge for full-back or 5/8- at least at this stage.

Thought much the same Den , then watched him at the annual aboriginal knockout and he absolutely killed it ..know its nowhere near NRL but he was a class above and his defence was much better .Had a good year in NSW Cup too .
Thinking Bird would be a much better option at 6 instead of forwards , if Amone is out
