if it turns out he didn’t actually grope this chick - which it seems we’ll know from CCTV footage - then he will be owed nothing short of an apology from the NRL and the eels would be within their rights to demand compensation from them too.

if it turns out he did nothing to this chick then he has not put himself in any sort of position at all. Short of simply never entering a pub what are footy players supposed to do?
Being such an avid defender of a person who has been charged with sexual touching reeks of misogyny.

Luciano Leliua was just stood down for 7 months, only for the police to drop all charges, moments before the hearing.

There was no apology or compensation.

He will get about as much of an apology that Brett Stewart got

The presumption of innocence means nothing to the NRL. Their actions presume guilt.
Brand protection is more important then anything else , the game is now consistent with this type of thing
you get drunk in a pub ( your choice) & put yourself in a potentially compromising situation ( your choice ) that attracts police attention & charges

guilt or innocence is irrelevant

you get stood down

Stop making sense. Poor little footballers on unimaginable money should be able to do whatever they like whatever the consequences

And if it turns out he did, and the NRL let him carry on playing, the PR hit and the backlash from the couch mums would be significant
the game has a duty to protect it's image and reputation. No player is bigger than the game.

If the CCTV is as clear as his lawyer says we'll have this matter settled up quickly and Brown will be back on the park in no time.

And the eels might lose a game that they’d have otherwise had won and miss the finals by 2 points.

I would also highly doubt the league would catch any flack from allowing a player to continue to play while defending himself, then punishing him if he is found guilty. Certainly has not caused any problems in other leagues, or even in the NRL in the past

What world do you live in? This is all over the media right now. Major sponsors will be questioning current and potential investment in our game as we are seen as having a problem with violence against women. You go right ahead and defend a players right to put the game at risk by making g poor choices, and I’ll argue that somebody paid as much as this bloke have a duty of care to the game and his club not to put himself in risky situations. By the way do you have any concern for the woman who had made the complaint. Seen nothing yet. Misogynist much?

It’s all over the media right now, yep. So despite whatever sacrificial nonsense done by the NRL the media attention is the same.

presumption of innocence is a fundamental right of our justice system so I’m comfortable sticking to it

Just keep your head in the sand mate. In the real world the game has an image problem and the players need to stand up for the game and avoid these situations. No other code in this country has these issues happening so often. That’s a fact. By the way you still have not mentioned any thoughts about the plight of the complainant. Misogynist much?

There'd be 100 league hating jurnos ready to pounce & scream from the hill tops
it would have been a bad look & thats that.

The NRL has a policy & as long as its consistent with it
thats all that matters

Allowing him to play would be a ... new.. & bigger story
the NRL is not a part of the justice system , Brown is a signatory to a code of conduct & the policies that goes with it
