Why is perth bid so secretive?!

Again supposition. we just dont have the evidence for 2023 to argue the point either way. The only fact we know is there are more people now who have fox streaming and foxtel than there was in 2017. How many of them in are in perth and how many of them are watching NRl is anyones guess.
This is complete bullshit. You're tallying up Foxtel residential/commercial and lumping it in with Binge, Kayo and Now. We don't know how many people are subscribed to the sports packages on Foxtel residential and Foxtel Now. Odds are that sports fans who don't care about 4K or drama have ditched Foxtel residential and Foxtel Now for Kayo.

FTA ratings for fumbleball in Perth were shit in 2023. Western Australians are every bit as parochial towards fumbleball as Victorians.

It's beyond delusional to think a Perth-based NRL team is going to add a significant amount of viewers.

Here's the AwFuL ratings for Perth in 2023:

In Perth, West Coast matches averaged 74,000 – down 22% – while Fremantle games fared worse – down 28% YoY and averaged 69,000. The Western Derby rated 155,000 and 154,000. Games involving neither Perth side averaged 45,000.
Perth average 56,000 (-23%)

If AwFuL's ratings in Perth dropped by 23% when the Eagles and Dockers struggled, what makes you think that a Perth-based NRL team -- which that is likely to be also-rans and finish bottom four on the ladder -- draw large ratings?

For all your bluster about Brisbane the audience avg for fta in Brisbane this year only went by 15k a game compared to 2022, a year the Broncos were flying and the Dolphins hype at full phins up mode. Hmmmm.

Afl fans in Perth already have kayo for the fumble ball

that means a Perth nrl team will add zilch

rugby league fans already have it for nrl and the fans we are trying to convert … fumblers have it for the afl

No ones saying they will draw 'large ratings' But if they can get the current 11k or so fta avg up to 20k then thats a great start and a new audience growth for the sport. We build on that and maybe we get to 30k in another ten years and so it goes. Its called customer acquisition.
This is the dumbest argument for adding a team in Perth and is based on false numbers.

Wookie has the number at 8k.

Metro Audiences
  • Sydney average 161,000
  • Melbourne average 12,000
  • Brisbane average 111,000
  • Adelaide average 7,000
  • Perth average 8,000

In Melbourne the Storm average 33,000, and when the Storm arent playing the NRL averages 8,000.

In Brisbane, the Broncos average 170,000, the Dolphins average 126,000. Other Queensland regional teams average 131,000 on Nine, while matches involving no Queensland sides average 98,000.

In NSW, Sydney sides average 163,000 per game, while sides from regional NSW average 163,000 as well. Matches with no teams from NSW average 146,000.

The Storm pull an extra 25K viewers in Melbourne when they're on FTA. They've have the most successful team in the history of the NRL. A Perth-based NRL team isn't guaranteed to draw an extra 25k viewers in Perth. With a Perth-based team playing up to 12 home games at 6pm Sun AEST, that limits how many FTA games it can feature in. The club might get fewer games on FTA than any other team.

You're cherry picking.

Broncos were strong throughout the bulk of 2022. Cowboys were also a top four team in 2022. There were fewer Broncos games on FTA in 2023.

The leading clubs on television during the season werre Brisbane, Sth Sydney, Penrith and Melbourne.

Brisbane were the dominant club on Nine averaging 620,000 viewers per game.
  • Penrith 586,000
  • Parramatta 569,000
  • Sth Sydney 549,000
  • Dolphins 521,000
  • Melbourne 518,000
  • Sydney 510,000
Brisbane were also dominant on Foxtels set top box programming, averaging 288,000 per game

  • Sth Sydney 270,000
  • Melbourne 267,000
  • Nth Queensland 259,000
  • Penrith 257,000
The Broncos ratings dominance continued despite a significant drop in free to air coverage – this is AFTER they dropped 4 games on FTA – Broncos matches on Nine dropped from 17 down to 13 this season. No Sunday FTA (2 last year, 0 this year), and 2 less Thursdays (down to 4). Fri (8) and Sat N (1) FTA remained the same.

And curling? This is a troll account

They both have to be troll accounts. They think only watching NRL and no other sports makes you a better NRL fan, and one of them thinks that the only good holiday destinations are places with rugby league stadiums.

not according to the source I got the numbers from.

Actually storms biggest FTA audience when they were on main channel was 61k.

Brisbane only avg'ing 15k more despite Broncos form, 47% increase in local club content and Dolphins hype is shite lol Puts to bed the whole 'Brisban3 is so valuable to fta' nonsense.
