I'm getting in a day early this week as I'm off to the Illawarra tomorrow for the first time ever. I can't believe I've never ventured down to Steelers' country. Apparently, it's lovely. I hope I bump into Rod Wishart.
There seems to be serious disparities at the NRL Judiciary. This shouldn't be but, like in other legal institutions, it is. Case in point Mitchell and Lussick. Three weeks (and a history at the judiciary) and six-to-eight weeks. Sure, Johnson wasn't hurt (luckily) and the other guy smashed his leg but surely the intent is the primary factor?
Tomorrow, let's rock on with Newcastle against the Chooks. It should be fine but very cool weather. A contrast to the lake they were swimming in there last week.
Friday, the Storm will show Canterbury exactly how far they need to climb, in order to be taken seriously again. Don't get carried away with big Sunday afternoon wins at Belmore...against the Titans!
'The Battle of Brisbane', follows. Sort of. It's not the days of the Crushers, who were actually based in Brisbane itself. This year, the Broncos are injury-struck and need a win, the Dolphins are leading the competition, but is that sustainable? We'll see.
Saturday, huge. Mt Smart loves hosting Manly. There's so many Sea Eagles 'OGs' getting around NZ, they never switched in '95. The Warriors need to be wary. Parra should get some sweet home calls now they're back in town hosting outsiders from FNQ. Souths v Sharks, the last dance for Demetriou?
Sunday, Wests v St George. I know a bloke in town who's old man is Tigers and he's Dragons. I'm not sure how that works? But it has to. Back in the day I was Canberra and the old man was Manly. Until the Warriors called a truce.
We close with another late finish at Canberra. What's with this dud time? Everyone's thinking about Monday morning by this stage. The Titans will be virtually 'mad-Mondaying' soon, if they don't string a few wins together. Sticky v Dessie is a battle of its own!
Enjoy.
