NRL Rd 6 2024 - General Non-Warriors Thread

I'm getting in a day early this week as I'm off to the Illawarra tomorrow for the first time ever. I can't believe I've never ventured down to Steelers' country. Apparently, it's lovely. I hope I bump into Rod Wishart.

There seems to be serious disparities at the NRL Judiciary. This shouldn't be but, like in other legal institutions, it is. Case in point Mitchell and Lussick. Three weeks (and a history at the judiciary) and six-to-eight weeks. Sure, Johnson wasn't hurt (luckily) and the other guy smashed his leg but surely the intent is the primary factor?

Tomorrow, let's rock on with Newcastle against the Chooks. It should be fine but very cool weather. A contrast to the lake they were swimming in there last week.

Friday, the Storm will show Canterbury exactly how far they need to climb, in order to be taken seriously again. Don't get carried away with big Sunday afternoon wins at Belmore...against the Titans!

'The Battle of Brisbane', follows. Sort of. It's not the days of the Crushers, who were actually based in Brisbane itself. This year, the Broncos are injury-struck and need a win, the Dolphins are leading the competition, but is that sustainable? We'll see.

Saturday, huge. Mt Smart loves hosting Manly. There's so many Sea Eagles 'OGs' getting around NZ, they never switched in '95. The Warriors need to be wary. Parra should get some sweet home calls now they're back in town hosting outsiders from FNQ. Souths v Sharks, the last dance for Demetriou?

Sunday, Wests v St George. I know a bloke in town who's old man is Tigers and he's Dragons. I'm not sure how that works? But it has to. Back in the day I was Canberra and the old man was Manly. Until the Warriors called a truce.

We close with another late finish at Canberra. What's with this dud time? Everyone's thinking about Monday morning by this stage. The Titans will be virtually 'mad-Mondaying' soon, if they don't string a few wins together. Sticky v Dessie is a battle of its own!

Enjoy.

Was being reported on Fox tonight too

Manly given him permission to negotiate? Certainly not someone we’d be interested in. (As much because we’re already stacked in that position as any judgement on his quality)

Yep told he is free to find himself another club. Apparently Manly put some clauses in his contract to avoid having to pay out the full money

Hope he finds himself a good club with a good coach, immensely talented and a good kid who has been battered pillar to post in the media. His best mate died at Manly pre season training a couple of years back and he has just had to give evidence in the inquest at the start of the year so I hope he is ok mentally

Yea the dude has been copping it in the media ever since he got that big extension. The NRL360 coverage of him has been fking toxic. They try qualify their comments by saying he's a good kid and he's talented blah blah blah but the criticism is just relentless. Its horrible.

Other than Walsh, I dont think there's another more naturally gifted player in the comp and if a club can unlock that he's literally a game changer. Maybe Benny can sort him out when he takes over Souths next year.....

You’d think they’d learn from scenarios like Paul Green etc, but they just keep going and going, and half the stuff isn’t factual either, his contract wasn’t even 800, closer to 600 than that

The Bennett arm around him would be perfect

Gee the Roosters look awful

A late season run last year papered over some cracks, much more of this type of play and Robinson might be under pressure for the first time in his career

lol as soon as I write that the Knights turn to crap

extremely selfish decision from Ponga here, he can hardly move but won’t go off and it is hurting them

Watching this game and all I can think is “we can take either of these sides easily”
22-20, Roosters. The Knights are in a bind with Ponga. He's their superstar but he's injury-prone and they're not much chop without him.

Nathan Brown out for Manly bugger it, he has been great to watch

Has there been a score of 50 this season yet ? I think the Dogs are about to be on the end of 1

Curran looked foolish with that carry and steal by Pap, leading to Melbourne's first try. Plus, Coates is doing freaky stuff for tries too, which makes me feel better!

I loved the South Coast yesterday. WIN Stadium is a ramshackle beauty by the water. I felt the Steelers history for sure.

Yeah I've been thinking this with most teams. We aren't even at full stride and were still playing better than most of the competition. I have Wahs, Raiders, Storm, Manly, Penrith and Broncos as the teams to beat. The rest are finding their feet still.
