If Salford got a decent investor they can get to break even and crowds of around 8k

Calling them Manchester and playing in Salford won’t attract anyone from Manchester and will alienate their existing fans

They need a good investor

If Carcassonne become the third french team in UK system, then they go in as combined Aude side. A Manchester team is best for league. I don't see much potential in Salford. I don't think NRL will either if they ever make moves there.

That's true. I thinking how Aussie investors would approach Salford. A united team for Manchester would be better & that may not even work.

The NRL doesn’t have to buy SL but they should at the very least give them guidance how they can improve.

Having said that, the flat caper dumb f**ks will ignore everything the NRL says if it doesn’t directly have a positive effect on their club.

I know others disagree with me on this, but if the NRL or a NRL club bought the London Broncos and started off at the bottom with junior development and built the club from there I'm positive there would be rich rewards not only for the British game, but also the game here as I'm sure some real diamonds would be found among them juniors.

Another problem British Rugby League is that they expect clubs who are outside the M62 corridor to pay visiting teams from the M62 corridor traveling expenses, but non M62 clubs don't get any expenses when visiting M62 corridor clubs.
Little wonder the game has hardly spread there in 129 years.

Oldham and Rochdale are tiny clubs and they can follow Salford if you look on a map Oldham is in between Manchester and Salford

St Helen’s tried once to be Liverpool st Helen’s it fell flat on its face

Those big cities don’t care about rugby of either code

Oldham are now sharing 14,000 seater Boundary Park with Oldham Athletic FC. After years in the doldrums have new dynamic owners that have revitilised the club and boosted the club profile and doubled attendances and expect even more in the championship after investing in a squad that should be competitive in that division and reconnecting with the towns junior clubs that produce plenty of players for the pro game

Untrue.
london, wales, Gateshead, Sheffield never had to pay travel. Dragons have had 24 years not having pay travel. It’s only Toronto,toulouse, and now Catalans that have as they contribute no value to the tv revenue but get/got the SL grant.

I would suggest buying a club where there is a large population and already has a club and build it up from the bottom with junior development, and unearth them diamonds that are already there just waiting to be discovered.

The NRLs success internationally in the southern hemisphere has been off the back of the popularity of Tonga and Samoa. Their new found competitiveness is not a direct result of the NRLs intervention. It's because of the changing of demographic in western Sydney.

What the NRL have done is capitalized on the increased popularity and competitiveness by arranging further matches and tournaments (Pacific Championships) which is great.

The Northern Hemisphere doesn't have this. There's no nation there with a dormant fan base, and the demographic of players remains largely unchanged apart from an increase in French players.

If the NRL/RFL want similar success in the northern hemisphere they're going to need to knuckle down and do the hardwork in increasing interest outside of the north of England and also increasing the amount of juniors and quality of football outside of England. That's it.

Having England towel the rest of Europe up won't accomplish anything.

An interesting idea tempered by the fact it’s DT journos telling it. TBF NRL clubs partnering with ESL clubs is a no brainer I reckon. Great for both comps IF done properly.
