If the AFL have a need for a bigger stadium, why don't they use the stadium that already exists for that purpose.

Test it out, schedule whatever their highest drawing games are next year and see if they actually need a bigger a stadium.

or maybe they hoped it'd be better than it was and that SCG suited the location of their fanbase better? Was a waste of money by them.

It was actually a better AFL stadium viewing-wise than the MCG.
The problem was that the snobs from the east and north of the Sydney metro (who are the primary Swans fans), never wanted to travel there due to it being in the west.
They were kidding themselves originally thinking it might be, but in the meantime, they f**ked up the rectangular sports and they didn't give a shite about that. Then, when no one would travel there, they abandoned it.
I blame this on the NSW govt at the time giving in to their little bribe towards reconstruction. They had so little foresight. The SCG was more than big enough for the Swans back then and still is to this day.

As for GWS, - LOL.
They have had so much money gifted to them. Money for the Blacktown development was pissed down the drain as they walked away from that within two years. They then went to Homebush and Breakfast Point and got gifted the former golf driving range as a training centre by the govt and had upgrades to the Homebush Showground, which they can r
barely even half fill, even with thousands of freebies given away.
It's time the State Govt just told them to f**k off and start putting the same amount of money into League grounds.

With the ladies and members stand as heritage and adds to the charm of it how much more work can you actually do there to expand the SCG.

The stadium is has been redeveloped quite well.

I go the cricket every year and I see the current design as still one of the most iconic cricket grounds in the world.

With the mixture of modern day and the classic old stands.

You don't need to have a 60k stadium for it to be world class and the best.

Haha, you have to laugh at these bozos.

They ruined the homebush stadium so they could get 80k people to attend their "blockbuster" games. When they could barely get 30k there after a few years they decided to leave.

Go f**k yourselves you cocks.

and certainly better than the SCG.
ALF fans go on how great the SCG is.
Most NRL fans in Sydney know the SCG as the absolute worst venue for viewing in the city,as is every ALF ground around the country.
Reality is that they just hated travelling outside their own bubble.

Don't think they would get the capacity much above what is now. The Noble and Bradman stands were done in 2014 and The Victor Trumper Stand in 2008 but the O' Reilly stand and the Brewongle and Churchill stands are really poor with very narrow access points in and out, was invited to a box in the Brewongle a few years ago for one of the Roosters games and was appalled by the entrance, exits points and narrow concourse where the food outlets were, thought i wouldn't want to be there if the place had to get evacuated.

The O'Reilly, Brewongle and Churchill stands need to demolished and rebuilt to bring in line with safety laws and for comfort level but even with that being done i cannot see there would be any major boost to capacity.

Give me your thoughts on whether or not HBF Park in Perth is suitable as a modern stadium and Perth's largest rectangular venue.
HBF looks very, very basic. It will feel like a poor man’s day/night out compared to the AFL @ Optus. Unless the NRL wants to be a second rate experience, no.

The capacity is fine, but the NRL should be pushing to upgrade the amenities, including roofs on all stands. This is not 1995.

It was so worth the afl giving a paltry few million to destroy Accor as a proper rectangular venue for multiple generations.
The government should the the afl to that - if it’s good enough for the nrl why can’t it be used for afl as well? Since they were the ones that campaigned to have to be configurable to an oval mode and wrecking it for the recentangle sports.

Its such a joke that the afl destroyed what should have been the premier rectangle venue in the country just so they can use it, but now they don’t want to use it
The Swans were smart and got out early, as everyone really started to sour on the stadium. If Souths and Dogs had done the same a decade ago that might have forced some government action by now.
