Easts home ground which was demolished to make way for the sfs. Ground was where the old sfs carpark used to be

Looks more like an old English ground

I posted that pic back in 2019 on p 41 of this thread. I lived half a block away from the old Sports Ground from 1963 -1970 but can never remember the cars being parked in the middle of Moore Park Rd like that but i remember the cars near our placed being illegally parked in Leincester St being booked on game days. Think 1967 was the first time i ever went to a game as a 4 year old but wasn't really interested in the football at the time, used to like sliding down the old Paddo hill back then.

It was a great ground to watch games from especially on the Paddo hill which i did for many years till it was demolished in 1986. Unique in the way the ground ran East to West so one team was running straight into the setting sun in the second half of the games.

I believe Leichhardt Oval also ran East West many years ago, not sure when it switched to North, South but think it was sometime either very late 60 s or early 70 s. I was a late comer to Leichhardt, the first game i went to there was in 1980.

Lo running east west would be so weird
Never knew it was like that

Just found a thread on here about it you posted a photo in 2023. So different

One game, when Bob Fulton was captaining the Roosters, they'd lost the toss and knew they'd be facing the sun in the second half. When the teams came out to start the match, Fulton took his team up to the eastern end to try and pull a "fast one" hoping no one would remember they were supposed to be at the western end in the first half.

Problem is, the opposing captain and the referee did remember, and alas it all came to naught for Bozo.

First game i went to at Redfern was in 1977, Easts had rested quite a few players after the mid week Amco Cup match but still won 13-0. Never really had any scary moments at Redfern although i remember a very classy lady calling Kevin Hastings a name i could not repeat during the pre season Craven Mild Cup game back in 1979.
Also remember the crowd not being very complimentary when Terry Fahey scored a try for Easts in his first game against Souths after he had left them, this was in 1981.

Tonga v Samoa at the titans stadium. Last play of the game: two defenders flying horizontally to stop a winning try in the corner
