What scares me is every press conference when someone mentioned how well Liddle went, Flanno goes “yeah he’s good but Cooky deserves credit” yesterday was the only time where that statement was warranted. It’s happened like 4 or 5 times when Cook didn’t play well. I hope that doesn’t piss Liddle off too much
It doesn't scare me -it's the truth. Liddle is shooting the lights out because he's coming off the bench.

Kyle Flanagan the coaches son gets a extension 2 years contract before start of season . But Liddell hasn't been re signed as yet if coach Flanagan let's Liddell go for his son to start at 14 next season and beyond we all should start now and start a vote or survey on this forum. Kyle didn't deserve a extension 2 more years after 1 season into a 2 year deal so obvious .

Yes indeed the young fella must be signed long term and the quicker the better . I can just imagine the saliva dribbling down uncle Nick’s chin all over Robinson’s face.

And there will be plenty of other clubs that have no spending cap that will wave their cheque book in front of Liddle . Sign Liddell a.s.a.p or kiss this most skilled player goodbye .

The re-signing of liddle is a priority for transitioning to life after cook. Liddle is going great but is not an 80 minute hooker. We need to keep him sharing the role with cookie and that gives us a couple of years to find a good young hooker, not kf, to share the role with liddle when Cook retires.
It's a wonderful opportunity for us but it depends on the first step, re-signing liddle.

I loved Liddles try but I am not sure he is the long term hooker we need. His speed and opportunism are great but there are other things I think he lacks that a dummy half needs.

I dont think his defence is good enough, we need a hooker who can make solid contact and help limit PCM, attacking players seem to roll Liddle forward even though he doesnt drop off. Also his service is not crisp or long enough which puts pressure on our hitups and his decision making from dummy half can be clunky and indecisive.

I think this is one of the areas we need to improve later in the game if we are going to consistently win the tight ones.

I am not saying get rid of Liddle, what I would like is for us to get a genuine gun hooker.
Interesting
I hope this is not the excuse preparation for Flano and his supporters
If we don’t sign Liddle

You paint a rather sickening picture there Gareth67.
That dribbling saliva.
You’ve put me off my coffee and biscuit.
:oops::D

But yes, show him the money - Lids that is.

Liddle is fantastic, but as everyone knows, his weakness is that he isn't in the top 8 number 9s for dummy halves work. And yes, while he is a good defender, he doesn't dominate. In saying this, I definitely want him to stay and would be bitterly disappointed if he left

Robson was available, but we failed to sign him. Rooters seem to be able to attract the good players.

Maybe Liddle is the player needed in the middle of the ruck when other teams tire. His service may not be perfect but he does a go job running the ball as his eye for picking a hole in defence and picking up lose balls on the ground is very good. It doesn't matter what number he has on his back he can find the try line. He is a very good player and needs to be a priority to keep.
Cook on the other hand will hopefully teach the younger players what they need to do to be a successful NRL player, he should retire after his current deal.

The problem with our hookers is a bit like the problem we have with finding a long-term No 7. No one player currently at the club has the complete skill set for the position- and there's just a shortage of such people just as new teams are entering the competition. Cook's defence is much better than Liddle's but he doesn't have the dash of a few years ago. With the No 7, one (Ilias) has a long kicking game but lacks an accurate short kicking game, savvy running ability and overall game management. Neither King Togia or KF can kick for sour apples so we are pushing the proverbial uphill at the end of every set by allowing our opponents to start in a better position than they should be allowed to.

I don't see Atkinson resolving the No 7 for SF so we can all look forward next season to ongoing cliffhanger games where our overall grit and tenacity rather than halves skills get us the points.

I think the question that has to be answered here is, who will be our run on hooker in 2027?
With Cook 'supposedly' finishing up his playing career at the end of '26.

Now, do I believe we should re-sign Lids? Yeah, for sure, but I feel his optimal value is coming on from the bench, not as a starter. If he is looking for a starting role, then I think teams will work out how to nullify his overall effectiveness.

We've signed Atkinson as a 6, hence why LKT is playing as the 7 and not KFlan.

So, where does that leave KFlan for '26 and onwards? Obvious to me that he will play as the 14, as the secondary hooker that can cover multiple backline positions if necessary.
As for Lids, does he 'hang around' in KOE Cup for a year? I doubt that very much.

The only scenario that seems to fit for '26 is that LKT drops back to cup, Cook and Lids continue as they are, Atkinson and KFlan in the halves. But, that doesn't solve the '27 onwards problem. Unless there's the thinking that Fagalilo or another junior can have a break out season in '26 and jump straight into first grade in '27, which I am extremely skeptical.

Conclusion for '27 appears that (assuming) Lids re-signs that he would start, KFlan as the 14, LKT as the 7 and Atkinson as the 6.

Should we re-sign Lids?, for sure, but does Lids want to re-sign with us, given the scenarios above?
