Anyone getting the feeling that the Bears bid is being fast tracked because NRL bosses are starting to doubt that PNG will get their shit together in time, if ever?
Seems pretty clear to me.

PNG are nowhere, no CEO, no chatter about coaches, not construction of infrastructure etc. etc.

I suspect the NRL are riding this one out, until they have a legitimate excuse to push it back, way back.

Looks like Adam O’Brien and Jackson Hastings will be available for PNG lol

If PNG get pushed back or even shelved indefinitely, does that bring the current team 20 options into the frame sooner than the currently believed 2032ish time frame?

I say that because IF PNG get delayed, it might make sense to add a team 19 elsewhere in the meantime... so when PNG finally happens at least it means a 10th game per weekend right away.

Of course in the case PNG falls over entirely (not even playing a game) then that means the NRL could sit on 18 teams for a while (current lineup plus Perth) and look at options for 19/20 at the end of the next deal.

PNG wont get shelved, it might take an extra year to get everything in place for it. No biggie, it doesn't add anything to tv value so no impact on the new deal.

Come on… how many times did we read here that the PNG bid “ was on life support “ because there hadn’t been a Telegraph puff piece for a month …

Would be a bad look for PVL if it doesn’t go ahead ..don’t see his ego allowing anything more than at the very worst a 12 month delay to happen ..plus they have started spending the taxpayer money already so they will be on the hook to deliver something at least

PNG will just have to spread some gravel on the field and build a bamboo grandstand and they’re ready to play!

2 million a season in PNG is tax free throw in the old mans management fee off 1 million a year. Crazy not to take it.
I'd doubt any person in Australia earning $500k + is paying the full PAYG tax amount.

There would be all sorts of tax evasion schemes going on. So it's not likely to be that big an attraction.

Given Perth makes it an even number, there is no rush for Team 18.

PVL doesn't look bad, he can deflect all the blame on PNG and Aus Government.

I just can't see it happening as soon as 2028.

And if it does, it will be probably the worst team to play at NRL level since the 98 Magpies.
