Bill Harrigan on Face to Face

The guy has literally admitted to managing games to make contests more even, openly said we're in the entertainment business and one sided contests arent entertaining for anyone. Absolute POS
Winds me up too, his “game management” approach is widely adopted now and players have adapted. They know the refs won’t blow 40 penalties a game for something so they’ll just keep infringing the same way. What’s worse is the powers that he in the game have to be able to see it but won’t do anything about it.

Name a better ref though. You have to give it to the guy even if he is an egomaniac. Who can ever forget his long haired phase in SL lol. He was trying to be a model back then, and I think he was in the calendars with the players 🤣

I cannot unsee what I witnessed at the MCG in year 2000 Dragons vs Storm
Storm won that night 70 . 10
Bill was referee. And I witnessed Bill getting in the same car . Behind the grandstand. In the carpark.with Storm coach Anderson
And 2 other Storm official's. Dressed in suit's
Recognised as the Storm chief executive
All 4 stared at me for a moment
Their eyes got bigger. Like a guilty look

Didn’t he say that in his book that Harriman admitted it to him

That wrong call did change the game they scored off that set
Haven’t read the book but I’ve heard Junior make the claim. In reality they had chances to ice the game and blew it. Also Balmain lead came off a long range try and a Raiders mistake. It was somewhat against the run of play. Usually in those instances the trailing team just needs a little break to get back into the game, which that call was.

Rumour has it they made a mistake with the height of the crossbar it was too high lol

Dunno if Benny was full of it or not

Heard that story. When the Raiders were setting up their training ground ahead of the 82 season they didn’t know how high a crossbar should be. It was suggested they call the SFS trust and ask about it. They were given a height that was about 3 inches too high. They didn’t know this until about 20 years later. It was theorised that the SFS had their cross bar a few inches too high, which if this were the case was probably the difference between Benny’s field goal going over or missing.

Kenty told the story on Matty Johns podcast. Said Don Furner told him this story around 2010.
