I genuinely cannot understand how rugby league fans can sit and watch football/soccer. Nothing ever happens, it’s so boring - and then there’s the theatrics and falling over at the slightest of contact. It’s unwatchable for me.
That being said, I’ll shout for whichever team are playing against Leeds Utd - just to piss off my mates who follow them. Growing up in Leeds, I find that Leeds Utd fans are generally entitled dickheads who think their team are one of the biggest in the land, despite the fact they’ve spent more than half of their existence (well over 100 years) not in the top flight of English football. Leeds Utd and their fans could easily be another entry to the ‘Petty Things’ thread.

There may be something psychological here. Fans needing to support a winning team so collect teams to follow.

In 1980 (as a 12-year old living in Vanuatu) I somehow got caught up in the excitement of the Joe Montana-led San Francisco 49ers winning the Super Bowl.

Since then I’ve supported them and the Sharks.
Recently, because my son loves NBA, I decided to pick a team, so I chose the GS Warriors (being from the same region as the 9ers).

So:
Sharks
49ers
Warriors

Good thread

NFL - Seattle Seahawks
MLB - Seattle Mariners
NBA - Waiting for the Sonics to return
EPL - Norwich City (yes I know)
My sister lived in Seattle for 3 years, and one of my best mates was a Sonics fan, so, yep, I don’t mind the Seattle teams.

Excellent thread from the great man!

EPL - Aston Villa
NFL - Houston Oilers - Now I just watch the game as a neutral but I love when Tennessee wear the Oilers playing strip.
Rugby - Southern Districts (Sydney) Souths Magpies (Brisbane)
AFL - No one
NBA - I'll go with Milwaukee Bucks because he is the same owner as Villa
MLB - St Louis Cardinals - Love the baby blue playing strip.
NBA - Neutral
NHL - Neutral

A quick comment about Rugby League - we have been absolutely poleaxed as a Rugby League community with todays game. It is light years away from the glory days of Rugby League across the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.

Two good teams can hit the ball up for 5 tackles and kick to the corner - it is rare that a rugby league try is scored through enterprising play. The majority of points (no evidence) are scored from either penalties, 6 agains, or unforced errors.

I recently saw a beautiful try that ET scored where Gavin Miller gave an inside pass, ET was running at pace and it is exactly how the inside ball should be executed. I am sure we see about 50 inside balls per game - useless.

We have been conned my Friends.

Yep agree - I really struggle to watch other sports - there’s no other sport out there that is all action like rugby league. Even in the shit games, every tackle still has the potential to be a bell ringer at least.
Other sports just can’t keep my attention, not enough happens quick enough, and there’s not enough aggro. Even boxing bores me to tears nowadays.
Darts is alright, it’s fast enough paced to keep me interested for a short while, and has the added benefit of the fact you can be the best in the world and still sup plenty of ale and eat kebabs every night.

Yep.

I can remember dozens and dozens of iconic games and moments from the 70s and 80s.

Aside from October 2, 2016 I would struggle to name 2 from the past 25 years.

What about the poor buggers who never watched SOO in the 80s/90s and getting excited about the game tomorrow night.

We aint seen nothing yet. The introduction of Perth and PNG will see the comp saturated with State Cup standard players.

The product has been on the slide for 2 decades.
Poor skills.
Softer players. Lachie Galvin's are the new breed. The Tik Tok contract - last 2 minutes.
More ref's in the bunker and on the field than players.
Penalties freely given and noone knows what for - play on!

If you want all.action and get the chance top level NHL is hard to beat

That’s a good shout - Leeds actually has an ice hockey team too nowadays, I’ve been meaning to go catch a game.

Dont know what that would be like, but I've been to 3 NHL games and loved them all

When I was living in the UK my landlord had a giant, f**k off rear-projection tv (pre LED/plasma days)

I was home one day watching NRL on Sky Sports and he came home and said “Sorry mate, I’m taking over the tv, the lads’ll be around in a minute to watch the darts”

I just laughed and said “yeah good one”.

Next thing ~ a dozen geezers stream in, the tv gets switched over mid NRL, and it’s f**king darts for the rest of the day.

Having said that I ended up not minding it after a while.
Phil The Power Taylor was about 8 world championships in at that point.

I love the snooker though.
Ronnie O’Sullivan’s my man.

Eagles give me a lot of joy - they are a pleasure to be a fan of. Incredible on and off the field lately and just put down one of the best seasons of all time including belting it out of the park in the superbowl. Liverpool once every few years pull something off but the spirit of the club is what makes it. Mariners the little battlers who could. 76ers are just f**ked.

I shared a house with a Canadian dude when I was in the UK.
He was a mad Canucks fan and he got me into it.

I can’t see the puckin puck!!!

It's more about watching the movement of the stick when the player passes.
You can anticipate where it's going, avert your eyes there somewhere and you start to pick it up.
But watching it off the stick? No chance.

Being a 9ers fan, I can't bring myself to like the Eagles, but Howie Roseman has to be the best GM in the game.

It is incredible the deals he has made. I think history will go back and look at this last Eagles team as one of the greats. "Belts to asses" pretty much week after round 4. Dominant on both sides of the ball. Wild. I loved our defence but loved our attack just as much. It was surreal to support such a dominant team. His ability to draft, sign and trade is mental especially as a 76ers fan. Get him to the shire.

I became an Eagles fan in 2001 because of Dawkins and how mental he was so it has been some ride.
