From that article:
The Broncos and Reynolds’ manager Steve Gillis will now move to finalise his last NRL contract, which is likely to include post-football opportunities for the premiership-winning playmaker.
If that aspect of the deal is satisfied, Reynolds will stay a Bronco, to be formalised in coming days.
From that article:
Umm... this is blatantly against the salary cap rules, is it not? The same thing the Tigers themselves got done for with Robbie Farah?!
You can employ former players. You just can't offer it while negotiating their expected final contract while they're still playing because it will influence them to "stay loyal" for peanuts with a nudge, nudge, wink, wink in the bank statement for later on which would be an obvious cap rort if not counted under the cap.I think the NRL has somewhat given up on enforcing it. Way back when Souffs had Inglis and Surgess on hundreds of $K post retirement "doing" desk jobs.
Raiders have had Sia Soliola and Jarrod Croker on the payroll in recent years (Sia previously and Toots Jr currently). I'm sure it's at other clubs too.

No, just those two POS cheating clubsI think the NRL has somewhat given up on enforcing it. Way back when Souffs had Inglis and Surgess on hundreds of $K post retirement "doing" desk jobs.

Earlier in the year Dce was saying when his next contract was announced people would see it’s not about money
So two years at around one million dispells that notion
He’s going to finish his career as a pariah
Roosters back flipping on the back flipper and leaving him without another club lined up would be hilarious.

I'm wondering if he'll stay at Manly if they punt Seibold? Is that where the real (coach) pressure is coming from?It would be truly beautiful. Roosters don't get a half. DCE stranded. Manly still in chaos... Chefs kiss
What utter garbage. It is an obvious rort and its a bigger rort than Farah. So a player like Burgess, Souffs know that he only has 1 year left in him and want him for $800K for 1 year. Opposition club really wants him and offers him $1M for 3 years. You can employ former players. It's not garbage mate. It's the rules. IF you openly offer a player work after his final contract whilst negotiating that final contract, which is what reports are saying about the Broncs offer to Reyno, that needs to be counted under the salary cap. What utter garbage. Souffs sign him for $800K for 1 year and he gets a mysterious role at the club for 4 years.
Rule 91A (1) – that any termination agreement with a player must include any future employment at that club, or any other NRL club.
In other words clubs must disclose total remuneration on what has been given, or promised, to a player and that remuneration is to be included in the cap.
