I was thinking the same. Commentators remarking on how deserved his call up is......

Oh dear, maybe some egg wiping is needed for some on this forum.
Or maybe they just don’t watch enough games .Based on his form even the maddest supporters of Penrith would find it hard to understand his selection based on his current form

Perth is a long way from Mount Druitt.

The drive across the Nullarbor is a bit further than the M7 interchange.

If the money is good players will follow but it's a huge adjustment.

Perth is going to have a tough 5-10 years in the NRL.

It's nothing like the Dolphins bid at all. Most judges got them wrong. Some didn't have them winning a game in their first season. They did a lot of things right before they started up. Decent recruitment, has an established club behind them (On the same seaboard) and nabbed a great coach.

Perth isn't Brisbane. They'll have similar issues with retention that the Warriors have. And if Perth is bad then PNG is going to be horrible.

My only concern for Perth, is Meninga. He has very little experience in setting up a club. Lets hope he recruits the right staff and he may have a chance. Not only that he didn't appear to be a good coach at the Raiders, based on the results he achieved.

The Dolphins recruiting Bennett and having a quality proven coach like Wolf, was a brilliant strategy. He attracted some good players and then instilled the right values to start the club off. I hope the Bears can do the same.

I never thought much of Meninga as a club coach. They made the finals a few times, but I thought he underachieved with the roster he had.
He hasn't been a club coach for nearly 25 years.
Coaching a club all year, is much harder, than coaching for a few months as a rep coach.

A lot of people credit his Queensland success, to the input of his assistants, and senior players.

Mal is probably good for a pre-game motivational speech. Then he should exit the room so his assistant coach can then talk tactics.

Their ceo has no experience in setting up a club either. His time as channel 7 news boss was laughable.

Throw in a biased media over there. Baying for failure. It won't be easy straight away.

I wish the Bears well. I would like to see the game go well over there.

The NRL would of chosen Mal because he is well known, not just by league fans but by the general public. Just like the AFL used Sheedy to coach the Giants in their first few years in Sydney. Its get the neutral observers interested. As Whino said they will surround him with good assistance coaches and use Mal to front the media.

Being a club coach is way harder than being an origin coach,Mal found that out the last time he coached that's why he quit and became qld then Aust coach. Its easy when you have the best players available over a 3 game series or playing tests against Neville nobodies.Try coaching an average team against stronger opposition over 27 rds.I fear for Perth with mal in charge.

I know many on this site are going through some real tough stuff at the moment.

Hopefully this lightens things up for a mere moment.

I am seriously some type of a 'special' person. Over the past 2 days I've managed to kill off 2 USB wall chargers, by allowing them to dangle into a glass of water (which I have on my bedside table for my early morning pain meds)

I honestly shouldn't be left unsupervised....I can't be trusted. Thank goodness for rapid delivery and universal cords and wall adapters.

I've also ordered a back up delivery from Amazon (next day delivery) of the same thing.....for 'just in case).

I think it's time for me to probably use a closed lip sippy cup beside my bed.........

That is a valid point. Name recognition for the neutrals. I don't follow the AFL but remember Sheedy as their coach.
Without looking it up I can't name their current coach.

The trouble is most of us on this forum know more about the technical side of football in 2025 than Mal does............comes across as a moron when on TV. It's sad a embarrassing
