Again that might be the case, doesn't invalidate the point.
The point is just prior to Union's RWC in Oz in 2003 ,we were constantly ear bashed that their code will overtake rugby league and become the no 1 sport in NSW & Qld and the No2 in Victoria/WA/SA .
Some even suggesting rl would wither & die.
Remember visiting wife's relos in Auckland "eons" ago, driven near Eden park ,male driver noted this is where the real rugby is, no one cares about rl . Being a courteous guest I remained calm & did not respond.
ARU officials with all their so called business acumen created a huge debt by incompetent spending ( hello Folau) ,putting a team in Melbourne which was supposed to make the Storm redundant and the result the Rebels are kaput.
Now union will no doubt get big crowds with their RWC with many travelling supporters. Then after the event down under things return to normal, just like Olympics.Enjoy the moment.

I think union and league will largely continue as in Australia. League built their product slowly following the Super League war and it has been a massive massive success that is undeniable. I also think the move to diversify revenue streams more is a good one.

RA and the others involved in the new world championships, run in between world cups, will make big profits. I believe the Saudis are paying about 800m to host the final in 2028 and 3032 ? Crazy money. Rugby’s new sugar daddy :D
I can't see it sustaining but hopefully the money is put away if it goes in. R360 is a complete nonsense imo.

Rugby Union needs to condense the global calendar, it's a complete mess.
