Based on what data and with what facts?

RL has been the biggest sport in PNG since the 80s, and yet the NRL have monetised ZERO from it, is V'landys admitting he is been a poor administrator by ignoring this?

The only way the "Pacific" will be a bigger TV deal than Australia is if those countries become economic powerhouses. That's not happening in our lifetime, nor the next.

This is frogshit on a grand scale.
Has V'landys been the administrator since the 80s? Can you point out the time in the last 30 years we have been administered well aside from right now. Because I've been a fan the whole time and I can't.

He has been an administrator for some time now, he lowballed us in the last TV deal, and was clearly seen as a mate of News and Fox.

But regardless, if there is untold millions to be made in PNG TV, let's start getting that happening now.

Wookie do you have any sense of avg streaming viewership for sports in Aus in terms of popularity?

Im guessing

1. NRL
2. AFL

then (wondering what order?)
EPL
F1
Super Rugby
Aleague
NBL
NFL
NBA
V8's
Golf

would be the other popular streamed sports? Wondering what tipping point of sports rights ownership is if Stan were going to go all out to overtake Kayo?

Cricket is 3, Tennis 4. On Kayo, F1 and the V8s do ok.

As for the rest, its anybodies guess, not enough data.

Perhaps having a team in the comp changes things a bit? There is money for the NRL having a team in Melbourne and Perth which aren’t really realised fully until we actually plonk a team there. I’m far from an expert but it seems to me that PNG finally having their own team is a huge change in the status quo. Will that lead to more money I don’t know but I can see how that might lead to more money that can’t just be achieved by flicking a button.

How long were the warriors in the comp before the nrl got a decent (or any) tv deal out of them ?

And league was battling union

PNG games will get 1 million subs that’s going to be worth decent coin

Having the ceo of digicel png as a board member of the png nrl team won’t hurt either

Someone speculated that digicel pacific pay Foxtel for coverage of the qld cup games already

I would actually be ok with unders again if it meant a lot more accessible coverage. But I suspect a long term high value deal, the market seems volatile right now.

If Ch9/Stan go all in on a bid on their own would Fox have to find a FTA provider to partner with there bid, or would Ch9 edge its bets either way and offer bids for FTA alone and FTA/PTV together.
You can sell them to both. Nine with 3 Free to Air and 5 games on Stan AND the same For Foxtel/Kayo. ie All games on thier pay TV platform. for say $300m pa each. Why not. done and dusted.
Everything must be looked at and considered. As the above, negotiations could lead less $'s by Nine and a increase in Foxtel/Kayo to make it happen. $ 600m pa would be sensational! Remember Foxtel needs it.
If Ten get their ownership 'done' they could be a buyer also. Millions of Northern NSW and Southern Q Viewers wanting to watch Rugby League.

Last year, you know year 2024 the Deal that Vlandy put together was OVER $400m pa. Compared to AFL deal for year 2024 of $420. So I don't see a low ball offer when comparing like for like. This year different BUT we doing a new deal which will finally be bigger than AFL

Oh cool, can I also confidently say that my team is winning a Premiership before it happens to?

You do realise that most of these millions of people you refer to probably already have Foxtel given they are avid rugby league fans. They are not waiting for the new tv deal to just subscribe.

Why would Foxtel pay more for games that are being shared with a competitor, while also getting less games than the competitor?

Nah they are waiting for ch 10 to get sold. They can't watch TV until that happens.

Logic would suggest, that its because there is no money there.
All I know is there is continuing infrastructure development going on in PNG.
Foreign investment growing such as China(hence the reason for the Aust Gov/NRL to offset the influence by the new team and the add ons via $600m), creating jobs due to abundant natural resources , mining, oil, gas ,forestry & fisheries.
And Interestingly enough a growing urban middle class a source perhaps of subscriptions for NRL with a PNG team.
Yes PNG has poverty issues 40% living below extreme poverty level. They would be unable to subscribe.
However according to Business Advantage PNG 13/3/24
PNG has a growing middle class driving the housing boom.

I give a similar example of paying more and getting less.
Every time time i go to Aldi (supermarket) I pay more than the last time and most times get less. It's the budget. So the reason I pay more is because I NEED food to live, as lack of food causes series illness and death.

If Foxtel does not get he NRL, it's my opinion that the WHOLE EQUATION of Foxtel/kayo profitability comes into play. A large 'chunk' Fox/kayo revenue and so profit is derided form the NRL. So Foxtel and Kayo will entertain paying MORE for less and with competition. Because without it they will have a SLOW DEATH. The NRL decides exclusivity and distributed to who ever they want. So I am saying the NRL decide exclusivity NOW. To make this a better negotiating position the NRL should open a Project about the viability (the IT cost) of streaming themselves. This put extra pressure upon Fox?Kayo.
So how much does Foxtel/Kayo need the NRL. Well that information is available by viewing numbers ( which the NRL are allowed to see? )

Of course they Foxtel/KAyo can pay up big time ($$$$'s) and then the whole point is mute.

If Foxtel does not come up with the amount the NRL wants, then start taking exclusivity off them, while also reminding them they we can the (NRL) stream it ourselves. Prety sure they will play ball.
They can go back to the 5 live and exclusive, ( leaves 4 FTA games) mantra with SuperSaturday...

Where did you get that number from?
Digicel across mobile, tv and internet services has an annual revenue around $340mill.

By comparison Foxtel in Aus has $2.5billion revenue a year
