Lions won a premiership last year but how many Lions players can your average Queenslander name? Compare the Lions captain to Reece Walsh in terms of general interest in Queensland on Google Trends over the past five years, and it's a 90/10 ratio in favour of Reece Walsh.
I still remember that Telstra ad from about 15 years ago featuring Rachel Finch, and the guy in the ad with her opens with "Rach, you're a Queenslander...." then quizzes her on some question about the Brisbane Lions. The implication that your average Qlder would be up to date with Lions trivia was laughable...

.seriously ..how the f is AFL 40/60 in the UK ? How many Poms are clicking on each week to see the latest ladder updates ?

I have never heard anything about the Poms ever having any interest in AFL …and we know there is some regional interest in our game

Must be all the Aussie backpackers over there

It's because of the nice little sleight of hand by @Jamberoo there. Put in 'Rugby League' v AFL and all of a sudden RL is 85/15 up over AFL.

Even on the NRL v AFL comparison. … I was expecting the results to be more like NZ - 93/7 … it looks like the results for UK got edited to 67/33 but even this seems unders..
To most Poms, the NRL and AFL are obscure Australian sporting leagues. Rugby League is a dying search trend around the world including Australia in favour of NRL as it's replacement. The UK is the one place it holds up because they have their own pro comp that isn't NRL (yet 😉).

Therefore Rugby League v AFL is the true measure between the two codes in the UK and AFL gets smashed.

You can support someone and still criticise them when they do or say something bad. The cultists are the ones defending him no matter what, or claiming he was just joking so they don't have to admit what he said was inappropriate.
Did I suggest he did not make mistakes ? Point out the ones defending him EVERY single time regardless.

The 200k Bears members was over the top. Who here said it was correct, or appropriate.
He stated Perth at one stage was a waste of space as it is AFL obsessed. He was correct on AFL obsessed but changed his tune on the potential for an NRL club. The WA paper is putting bull ants in the expansion as we know.
People laughed about the Everest horse race when he said it would be huge.Look at it now.

You can argue those who criticise him no matter what are cultists and there were a couple here on board with that cult.No names pack drill. Fair to suggest you are hardly supportive that's everyone's democratic choice.

AFL leaders have been out there being bullish & proactive over the years ,sport in this country is damn competitive and our code is also tribal. So if you are a member of a tribe(cult) like the Ubangis you support your leader, even thought at times you don't like his methods.

AFL was challenger comp that forced merger with NFL. Some teams like chiefs still wear AFL logo.
Yeah there's something like that going on with the USA AFL search trends, because AFL out ranks Major League Soccer too which is incredibly unlikely. I would say you are on the money there with it being a mistaken search rather than a deliberate.

Further evidence to this is that both 'Rugby League' and 'Australian Rules Football' show negligible results.

To be even more condusing if you like, AFL (australian football) is categorised as American Football in some rankings as well

There is a thread on the big footy forum with the title "AFL overtaking NRL in QLD" so you'd think people in QLD would be able to name and recognise Lions players and don't get me started on their CEO calling QLD an AFL state.

Dolphins are already ahead of the Lions in terms of general interest in QLD too, despite the Lions winning a premiership while the Dolphins have yet to play finals.

Lions have the Titans covered for general interest in QLD though so I guess that's something for them to hang their hat on.

To play devils advocate in 2024 Lions significantly led dolphins in:
Crowd avg (21.6k v 29k)
Membership number (35k v 63.2k)
Commercial revenue (21.5m v 37.5mill)

Only commercial area Dolphins led, and by a long way, was in tv audience for games
