Rumours and Stuff

Mate you are actually right. I’ve had a pretty awful slip in my own mental health journey this last 2 weeks and I’ve got an idea what has brought it on but you are definitely right about limiting your consumption.

Ive switched off social media, news, opinion pieces etc and the only thing I have had for 2 weeks is here. Essentially because I feel very comfortable here but still have a level of anonymity and no judgement if you are not feeling great.

Tbh I started obsessing over the Galvin stuff and it got me so negative.

Word to the wise, a break can really help. A lot of bad news atm.
Mate, missing out on Galvin and TDS is great news for us fans. You know how things usually go here and the potential there for those 2 signings to be absolute duds, especially here at Parra on big money, was HUUUUGE!

I am sooo relieved we didn't get them and so should you be. Adopt that, realise the truth of it, allow yourself to now think differently about it, take a deep breath and please enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Just a club with the most members in the comp
Small club without any pull, presence or pull
We're nothing at all except pack out our home stadium every home game,
Have severel generations of fans
Every layer loyal true blue and gold
Except for all that,
We're a nothing club
Friday night drinkies??

Unfortunate
I am actually concerned about you blokes.

I have a cheeky $10 on the Dragons to get the spoon but you may give them some competition in the next 10 weeks.

Roosters away next week with no Bula, Api, Luai.

It could be a slaughter and confidence is looks to be getting worse as the season goes on.

Mate, don’t get me wrong, everyone who knows me for more than 5 mins knows I’m an eels fan. But you’ve got to try to insulate yourself if it’s taking over your life. It’s just footy. I genuinely don’t believe that if we win a comp my life would be better for more than about 12 hours.

See, for me, it would be.

My dad was the one who got me into rugby league.

My dad was the one who got me into the Eels, by telling me stories of the legendary Ray Price, Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, Mick Cronin, Steve Ella, and Bear O'Reilly.

He spoke with such admiration, pride, and passion about them.

When he passed away in 2011, a big piece of me died with him.

My dad was the one who I could talk to about anything. And he was gone.

As an introverted autistic man, my dad was my best friend.

Once he was gone, my life totally turned upside down.

But seeing his beloved Eels win a Premiership would bring some closure to me.

I don't expect people to understand.

But for me, it's more than footy.

I have a beautiful wife, and two beautiful kids.

But I'm stuck working in a job with a great company, but in a role I'm not crazy about.

I've looked for other work, but there isn't much out there that can support my family.

So, I put my nose down, suck it up, and provide for my family.

I'm not happy with my work situation.

So I try to seek that happiness from my footy team.

It probably sounds really immature, or asinine, but that's how my brain works.

But I'm getting exhausted by this club.

I genuinely think Jason Ryles is the right man for us - but he needs help.

You are a Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan right?
The Irish have just gone on a tear in recruiting" Ian Premer (TE), Joey O'Brien (S/WR), Khary Adams (CB) - all 5-star level high school recruits. Its good times to be an Irish fan.
Also as we know Parramatta Eels and Notre Dame have a close bond and a lot in common.

To be honest, I don't really follow college football.

I'm a Raiders fan, and we have been making awful back office decisions for two decades.

I'm also a Lakers fan, and we're not sure as bad, but we are not far off.

But none of my favourite teams in other sports even come close to my passion for the Eels.

I think missing out on Galvin was a blessing, as good as he is.

He's caused so much drama, and done nothing in the game.

Also, signing him would likely interfere with developing Fletcher, and Talataina - these two are our future.

Yeah I will mate cheers. To be clear, my headspace is not because of the Eels. But when you are in a bad space you tend to obsess over irrelevant stuff.

Currently watching my 3 yo dance her heart out at ballet lessons so perspective is key.

As staunch parra fans we would all love to see us break that drought. Sport is a great distraction and can be a fantastic release from everyday life.
I can't wait to celebrate with you all when we finally win the comp...🤩

No I was giving my opinion on what they should do. That’s not an assertion of fact. Anything could happen with any given player, but we wouldn’t know.

Then you asserted the fact that Gould had talked Galvin into choosing less money to go to a club that hasn’t won a finals match in nearly ten years.

It was also ‘widely reported in the media’, that the Bulldogs weren’t interested. Rugby league media is intended to influence and entertain. It is not intended to inform.
So when I say something it’s an assertion but when you say something it’s an opinion? You should look up the term “special pleading”. Also it wasn’t widely reported the Bulldogs weren’t interested. It was widely reported that Phil Gould said Galvin wasn’t on their radar. There’s a difference.

So when I say something it’s an assertion but when you say something it’s an opinion?
It depends on the language. You conveyed Galvin's pay cut as a fact. My post, that you replied to, contained assertions of fact as well as clear opinions:
If Manly's so bad maybe 'selling the club' isn't a factor.
Opinion
These merkins play for money ffs,
Assertion
especially the ones who've never had any money before.
Opinion
An NRL player's first big contract might be the most important in his career, because it might also be his last. Look at Dunster.
Assertion with probabilistic language, where the probability ('might' in this case) is an opinion
Anyone advising a young player wouldn't be fulfilling his duty of care if he didn't tell him to chase the money.
Opinion
Premierships won't set you up for life.
Assertion
You can worry about those after you've achieved financial freedom.
Assertion

Feel free to challenge any of these assertions or opinions, but recognise that opinions cannot be proven or disproven. If you disagree you can at best show why. At worst, just play the man, which seems to be preferred around here.
