The interstate fanbase would be the most valuable. Potentially, I'm keen to see how many are actually out there.
Agree. I personally know of 8 people who use to follow North Sydney who have all said they plan to follow the new Bears and get to games in Sydney, etc, though I'll be curious to see how active they will be.

If the side is competitive in it's first few years, it will definitely help, though the east coast base will be predominately people aged 40 years and above.

That's no bad thing, that tends to be the demographic with the most expendable cash!

Accept they arent.

Not wanting to cover old ground but sometimes you just have to call it

1. The Consortium offered up $30mill start up, they then added to that with a $20mill license fee AND financial guarantees. Yeh doesnt sound like a bid with financial backing at all lol.

2. Ive heard from a good Govt source that the very first meeting with NRL The WA govt was told the NRL's strong preference was a Bears link up and they should pursue that. Bears wasnt WA govt idea at all. They had no choice given the NRL's directive

3. That NS have 3 seats on the board of a Perth club sets alarm bells ringing for us again in the West.
Mate, you’ve been wrong at many turns and here we are months later and you’re still trumpeting absolute rubbish like what you just posted. This isn’t your Cave Facebook page mate, your rubbish will get called out for exactly that, rubbish. You’ve been doing great with your support, stick to that. Everytime you stray away and post things “you think you know”, it just further highlights how much you don’t know.

Point 1, quite literally reinforces what I blatantly stated. Good start up funding, no argument there but also no sustainable long term plan or strategy, only verbal handshakes and promises from undisclosed “business people” as put forward guarantees that weren’t even tangible. A lot of “trust us bros, we got someone in the shadows ready to finance this operation”..

Point 2, maybe. Possibly. Who knows. What’s known is WA Gov approached Bears with the concept. I was literally in the room when they discussed it.

Point 3, I told you. For months, the Bears brand will be protected and there will be Norths people on the board. Now I originally said 2 Bears people who hadn’t been on Norths board before and I admittedly forgot Bracey had a short stint on it previously but Hockey hasn’t ever served as a member. Also not sure what happened but Tony Crawford for all intent and purposes was also approached but it’s clear at some point that spot went to Daniel Dickson instead. Likely Tony turned it down.

At this stage I’m convinced that I could state that Brisbane is a city in Queensland and for whatever reason you’d choose to not believe me and instead argue that fact just because I posted it.

Beyond all of that we now support the same club, you have a good avenue to reach people and bring more fans in. Use that in a positive manner, stop being such a turnip and march on with the great support that you’re showing. That sort of support is invaluable. This other crap like your post above, leave those uneducated thoughts in the bin. You’re better than that.

Alarm bells in case of what? Norths have far more to lose and with only 1/3rd representation on the board they'd be outvoted on any motion to sever all ties and rebrand.
Trust me. This club cannot rebrand. There’s factors beyond WA Government’s financial support towards grassroots and pathways development programs to which the license is legally bonded to. Bears brand being in WA is very much one of those factors.

ARLC hold the license and when it’s eventually “sold” they’ll still control the license by proxy due to owning the competition in which this clubs plays in.

In saying that Bears cannot move from WA either. Both sides are very much protected, regardless of who is on the board.

thats a good get. he seemed to have helped streamline the goldies junior clubs and schools for most part to feed into titans. its the wild west there with free for all, every nrl club has a scout on the goldie.

so howe is good but unfortunately and ive been seeing this alot on social media is people cannot distinguish recruitment vs. footy systems and coaching therefore they attribute poor results to howe however he isn't coaching the team, he is just getting the player types which dessy and justin before him wanted. i guess some people just dont get it, oh well.

Mal Meninga is at a point where he needs to start making the dominoes fall.

And it all begins with making Cameron Munster the game’s first $2 million player.

It’s been six weeks since Meninga smiled down the cameras, while also offering a surprising impersonation of a bear, during the NRL’s press call to announce the 13th Immortal would be Perth’s inaugural coach to lead the Bears into the competition in 2027.

Six weeks doesn’t seem that long to be in the job.

In rugby league, it’s a lifetime. Over that same six-week period, every other club in the game have announced re-signings either until the end of 2027 or beyond.

Every other club is working 24/7 to build a roster for their future, yet the Bears still haven’t moved.

Just 19-months away from their first official NRL game, Meninga and his newly-appointed head of recruitment Ezra Howe can’t afford to waste a minute. The Bears will hold their first official board meeting next month and it can’t come soon enough.

Ask any GM of football or head of recruitment at a rival club and the majority will show you a spreadsheet and forecast model of what their NRL side will look like in 2027.

The Bears don’t have a single player.

Which is exactly where Munster and so too, Titans captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, enter the discussion as priority targets for the Western Australian franchise.

Munster is contracted to the Storm until the end of 2027 and would require permission from Melbourne to negotiate with the Bears.

I’d be stunned if Melbourne stopped Munster, given what he’s achieved for the club, from at least having a conversation with Meninga.

Undoubtedly, Melbourne would want to keep Munster, who reaffirmed himself as one of the most bombproof playmakers in the NRL, with undeniable mental steel, following his extraordinary leadership in guiding Queensland to an against-the-odds State of Origin series win over NSW.

The problem for the Storm is - and why they may consider extending Munster that permission - is they also have hooker Harry Grant (2026) and Ryan Papenhuyzen (2027) entering a negotiation phase, on top of the anticipated re-signing of Jahrome Hughes (2026).

Making the call on Munster even more interesting, is that the Storm also have talented rookie half Jonah Pezet waiting to see how long Hughes extends for, with flexibility in his contract to exit his 2029 deal.

Turning 31 in September, Munster’s age is a non-issue when you consider Adam Reynolds at 35 is contracted to the Broncos next season and Daly Cherry-Evans at 36, is about to continue his NRL career beyond this season with the Roosters.

The Bears will also have the ability to use Munster and Fa’asuamaleaui as their franchise flag bearers, not just up on billboards, but in the salary cap as their two highest-paid players.

ARL chairman Peter V’landys is back from the US, where he carried a dossier of metrics about the great game into meetings with broadcast heavyweights that showcased the record number of viewers the NRL attracts every week.

As a result, when the new broadcast deal begins in 2028, the salaries on offer to players are about to skyrocket. The highest earners will be raking in closer to $2 million a season. Maybe more.

Like it or not, there will be a large portion of players that aren’t interested in either leaving their friends and family or needing to uproot their family to Perth.

Munster in how close he came to signing with the Dolphins in 2024 and Fa’asuamaleaui in his move from the Storm to the Titans has shown they aren’t afraid of change.

What’s imperative is that the Bears land a ‘big fish’ to build momentum through their roster build.

If they were able to convince Munster or Fa’asuamaleaui - who has a clause in his current contract that allows him to leave the Gold Coast at the end of 2026 - the influence on other players suddenly wanting to join the Bears would be undeniable.

So what exactly do people do in Perth besides watching or playing NRL?

Do they have a zoo there? Mini golf? I'd probably just slum it at the hotel.
