A slow weekend so decided to get into some 80's goodness. My wife had never seen Predator 2 (Released 1990 but an 80's film at heart - found it at my local library) so we did a double bill with The Thing 1982.
Both great films, Predator 2 is much underrated but it's a great watch, chock full of 80's "lesser light" actors like Bill Paxton, Gary Busey, Adam Baldwin, Maria Conchita Alonso (you'll know her when you see her) etc and of course the star, Mel Gibson's long suffering partner in the Lethal Weapon series, Danny Glover as the hero cop. I love the ending, so good.
The Thing 9/10
Predator 2 7/10
Predator 2 is awesome actually, do you want some Candy...Still beats some of the sequels that have come after, The reason why I love it open it's how they connected to Alien universe, and how they've been arriving on earth for a long time, and how the pistol connects to the sequel Prey. 8/10 Also Bill Paxton played in both franchises.

As for The Thing great movie about paranoia and mistrust..9/10

Agreed on both. The Thing is one of my favourite all time movies and P2 was definitely under rated - probably because Arnie was not in it.

Accountant 2. 5. Pretty shit, but Angie from the bar scene lifted it a full point.

So I went and saw F1: The Movie this afternoon. I'd give it a solid 7-7.5/10. Whilst some parts of it were a tad predictable, there was enough going on that the movie flew by and there were an occasion of two where you thought the "expected ending" might not happen.

Its a long movie though. It runs for 2 1/2 hours (give or take a minute, I left whilst the credits were running). It was entertaining.

Yes, Brad Pitt is the "grizzled veteran" who's character started in F1 back when people likle Mansell, Prost and Senna were still racing but leftr it due to an ontrack incident (which I won't go on about here and spoil it). He eventually becomes a wanderiung driver going from race to race, trying to recapture how he felt when he was in F1. Money is not his motivation. He only comes back to F1 when his former team mate in F1, played by JKavier Bardem, who is running an F1 team approaches him asd he needs a second driver as one of his drivers singed mid-year with another team. His team APC Racing (pronouced "Apex") is one of the back runners. Thing is if they don't improve by the end of the year, Bardem will be forced out and the team will be sold. There are 9 races left when Pitt's charcter is approached.

Pitt's character, Sonny Hayes, is a professional on the track. He wants to win, but is not reckless. We see thgat at the start of the movie when he, as the "hired gun" helps his team win the Daytona 24 Hour Race.

It shows what goes on both on the track, on the designing boards, and even the board room in F1.

All up, its worth a watch. I found it entertaining that the time just flew by.

The racing scenes aren't bad, they're decent, but its no Rush on that score.
The actual racing and how it was filmed was the best part. That was wonderful. Which is a huge important part of this film.

the writing with the plot was f**king diabolical. Maybe because I’m an actual F1 fan I could see how silly a lot of it was.

I get that you need to Hollywood it up… but some of the things Sonny does are just so dumb.

I won’t get into spoilers… but I will say that the dumbest thing I actually found was that they didn’t show any qualifying… like WTF?!?!?

Quali is seriously one of the most exciting parts of the race weekend. They could have made plenty of excitement around getting to Q3. Instead it was like every race they had to go from last to first which just makes it silly.

id give it a 5/10.., the racing scenes make it worthwhile… but the plot and script are pretty bad.

Gladiator 2 - been putting off watching this because I was so confident it would be a turd.

However take away the facts that it didn’t add anything to the original, it was pointless and didn't need to be made… I didn’t mind it at all, take it on its merits and it was an enjoyable flick.

I love Denzel but hated him in this though, poor casting…. not sure why they told him to just run with his yank accent the whole movie.

You know…. My old man had the same gripe too…

I don’t understand it… the fact they are all speaking english kinda makes it all a moot point IMO…

I don’t actually know for sure but you would think if they were going to have an accent it would probably be Italian?? Which none of them had… lol

it’s like we expect them all to sound like Sir Anthony Hopkins…. Which I reckon would be just as unlikely as speaking like your from Brooklyn… lol

although I guess it does sound jarring if everyone else is speaking in one accent and one dude is coming in sounding like he’s from the Bronx…

but even then… I think each part of the empire had there own regional accents to their Latin.

just my 5cents anyway… lol

Saw James Gunn's Superman this afternoon. All up a good movie. Not as dark and grim like Man of Steel. More uplifting and hopeful in the vein of Christopher Reeve's Superman.

Are a few twists you don't see coming in terms of hios history, but they do not do an origin story. The movie starts with a text explaining the set up, like 3 centuries ago meta humans start appearing on Earth. 3 decades ago, Kal-El is sent to Earth. 3 years ago Superman makes his first public appearance etc.

Casting is good and most of them aer not wasted. Nicholas Hoult is brilliant as Lex Luthor. You understand his motivation to hate Superman, and he comes across as intelligent, charming, yet totally malevolent.

I won't say much more as I don't want to spoil it, but its action packed, fun and entertaining. Goes for 130 minutes in total.

I saw this on Saturday. There seems to be a lot of people who seemingly hate a movie before they see it. Ignore them, I really enjoyed this film. When I saw the Krypto dog in the promos, I had a big mental eye roll over the concept. I am so pleased to be wrong as I enjoyed the dog scenes and part in the film.

I am a bloke that adores the Christopher Reeve entries, disliked "Superman Returns" and thought the Synder Superman movies were just average and never really took to the Cavill Superman.

I really like the new Superman actor....much prefer him to Cavill. Lois and Lex were great as well.

The only slight negative to this film was the "promise" of one particular character I found annoying getting more screen time in a possible sequel. I won't spoil it but I hope they don't go that direction with the franchise.

I loved the feel of the film......a whole lot of a better feel than the Snyder Superman entries.

The Synder Superman fans will not like this while the Reeve fans will take to this film a lot better.

Cool my son saw it last night, he told me that I should enjoy it, it’s not that dark as the man of steel, it would remind you of Christopher Reeves Superman. I watching it on Tuesday with the wife….Thanks for the review Apollo.

Apollo was pretty spot on. Ignore the haters and give it a go, particularly if you liked the Reeve entries.

I loved that they did not go the origin story route. We all know it....it would have just been a time filler. Intelligent choice by James Gunn.
