…but also have Toby up there. I was already impressed with his impact before his match-saving play. He has been pretty great off the bench since his return from injury.

3 Brailey
2 Nicho
1 Rudolf

Kennedy was really bad defensively, but actually played ok offensively coming out of our end and on kick returns. Had a lot of runs and tough carries.

Trying to figure out how people think someone who for about 60 minutes led a headless chook attack was best on field?

3 - Brailey by miles
2 - Toby
1 - Wilton who stopped Katoa like no other has for months.

Good call. Shades of Wado on Cronk. Eliminated all of Katoa's time. He's still a class act though, that little fekker. Kept coming back and played the 80 out.

He was the best hafback on the field.

I gave him 0.5 for that passage of play that led to his first try. He was calling the shots and moved the opposition around and set himself up.
I thought "ooh Nicho just played like an actual halfback. I'll give him half a point for that"
Haha

attack wasn’t great, but I feel like his halves partner was a lot to blame for that. Two tries, a try involvement and a try assist along with 26 tackles, some important ones thrown in, get him the points. Don’t let the narrative get in the way though.

There are 2 narratives at play though. The other is it actually seems to be he's had a 6 or 7/10 game and is being lauded as having played a 9 or10/10 game. We'll call that the apologists narrative.

He also bombed a try for himself and is slower than a rocket trip to Uranus.

He didn't play bad, was in fact improved in some ways. He wasn't the best player though. He wasn't top 3.

A lot of sympathy votes.

The game wasn't impressive overall. The Sharks could only really get traction by attacking a rookie winger where all 4 tries were scored on his side.

This.

It’s this classic all on one side or the other thing going on.

To quote the nursery rhyme ‘when he was good he was very very good and when he was bad he was awful.’

Great that he showed up for the first ten and the last ten.

Bit f**k me the middle 60 has to be fixed.
Forwards dominated for most of it as well, so it was a time to put together about 4 or 5 more tries!

Halfback iced the result and got the two points at the end of the game. That’s what everyone wants from him, he delivered and it’s still not enough. I haven’t seen anyone say he was perfect, but there are a lot of factors out of his control that were to do with that rather than him playing poorly. If he doesn’t play last night, we don’t win. Trindall couldn’t set up a try to save his life.

2 things can be true. Hynes was significantly improved last night (off a low base recently). He did score and create tries. He did ice the game with the try at 14-12. He needed to because the miss on Herbie was very poor (as were the following 4 misses by others) which brought them back into the game. He also dropped the ball with the line wide open. His kicking game was better than previously.

Overall, a solid 7 out of 10. He needs to build on that. This team needs him at his best to do anything. He is the marquee player and the expectations are higher. It comes with territory. This season he hasn't been close to delivering to expectations. He has been passive. He can change it through performance.
