So Brown plays 9 as a one off while Smith is suspended? He’s a good defender. He might actually play 80, just slot in elsewhere when the new kid comes on. “dropped” might be the wrong word.

This could be all fixed if players just wore the same number for the entire season, and you could then just name say 20 players 24 hours before the game and the final 17 one hour before kick off.

After all, there is no rule that says that number 7 has to perform the role of half-back...
