I hope Iongi studies the art of support play.

His going well

But if there is one criticism we made 4 breaks in the first half and he was nowhere to be seen in support.

All the great fullbacks Paps, Tedesco, Gutho, Edwards, Hammer are there when a break is made.

If Iongi wants to be elite he could have scored 3 tries today in that first half if he was there and be under the posts.

Gutho is slowing down but always was on the spot when a break was made and with Iongi having more speed he would have scored 3 tries today with the breaks we made.
Agree with this
Im a big fan and love his work but definitely needs to improve this part of his game

We lost because our second half defense was absolutely horrible.. we were not controlling the ruck taking players to the ground.

TDS has a loooooong way to go Smith is still better than him.
I actually think that TDS looks the craftiest dummy half we’ve had in literally decades. It has been our weakest position since 1986, and TDS is already the best attacking 9 we’ve had since Brad Drew (who was the best since Steve Edge).

Woeful completion and error rate from us.

Were lucky to be in it (and leading) until the Raiders sorted out their own play, and could build the momentum - which more often than not gets rewarded in its share of 50-50 ref calls. We simply weren't good enough for the win today, but I'm happy they didn't fall apart after the 10th minute... that last 30mins of the first half is all that stopped Raiders scoring more than 40 points.

Next week, persist with Papalii at #6, De Silva to start in Smith's place, and Hawkins to the bench to cover Moses' return (putting Smith in #18). Will Penisini is due back so walks into Simonsson's centre spot as the only other change.

The good teams get “the rub of the green”, ie they get more penalties, because their ruck control is good on both sides. Us getting pinged for infringements and not winning as many penalties/set restarts is because we’re getting beaten on both sides - and it’s been that way for literally years. It’s not rocket science - we’re just behind the mean in terms of quality at this stage.

The facts are pretty much the exact opposite to what you are saying, mate. Read the article I posted.

It was Joash on the left..
I thought it was him

But I trusted @Soto recall of the play that it was Iongi because i am out.

But my point was we made 4 LBs in that 1st half up the guts and Iongi was nowhere.

Its a part we need him to improve.

Gutho would have been there in support on the spot every break we made.

Dylan Brown? he can tackle at least
As much as he shits me and as much as he’s disappointed in not kicking on as much as he could/should have, we will miss Dylan next year. If the opportunity arose for him to still be our 6 next year, we’d be absolutely braindead not to want that to happen. He is a different prospect with Moses on the field. I’m still disappointed he’s going, despite him being overpaid for what he has contributed so far.

If he’s not a winger, what is he? He’s a better winger than centre, so where the hell does he go if he doesn’t play wing?
That's the thing...hes regressed...
Maybe 2nd row or back to centre...
I don't know but right now hes a liability

I know it’s become a meme here that I hate Iongi, but I don’t. I’ve said since the start that I think it’s been worth the investment sacrificing this season by putting him ahead of Gutherson (and cutting him free to go to Saints) for the longer-term potential, even though Iongi has frustrated me by doing shit that Gutho wouldn’t have done / not doing things that Gutho would have done that has cost us games.

Having said that, I do think he’s coming along nicely at this point. He’s miles away from being a complete fullback, but his improvement has been clear over the course of the season.

But he is still a long way off being a consistently good fullback, and your observations about his support play are one of them. At least he seems to be weeding the worst of his frequent bomb drops out of his game, and I really hope that with the rest of this year and another off season under his belt, he starts showing that all-round consistency that we need.

As much as we bitched about Gutho’s inability to break a game open over the last few years, he is still a very good fullback, and an all-round footballer. Iongi is not at this point - but he has youth and time on his side. I really hope the investment is worth it.
Iongi is 3 years off from being decent, many floors in his game, nothing seems to have been addressed as yet

Yep.
After halftime the Raiders completion rate went up and ours went down. Pretty much sums it up.

We copped a raw deal from the ref today but we did ourselves no favours with handling errors, poor decisions in attack and woeful defensive reads.

We have to do better to keep ourselves in games because the refs certainly ain’t going to help us.
