Where’s the posters who said Foxtel couldn’t afford to pay much and the weak advertising market would hinder nine

Never change Lu

This will be the first time in history the nrl tv deal will surpass afl
You read one Buzz article and start pulling your dick hard. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

If STV is so lucrative right now, why did News sell out?

They were apparently guests of DAZN at MetLife stadium for the fifa club WC.
It is no secret that the Club World Cup would not be happening in the way it is now happening without Dazn. In December 2024 Dazn offered Fifa a jaw-dropping $1bn (£787m) for the broadcast rights, all the more startling in a market that was, to that point, also Uncontested.

A month later Saudi Arabia concluded its own deal to buy a 10% stake in Dazn in return for – guess what – another $1bn. Two months after that Fifa announced its vast tournament prize fund, also, by coincidence, $1bn, thereby ensuring full compliance from its invited guests.

In the middle of this, around the time the soon-to-be-Saudi-part-owned Dazn was concluding its Fifa TV rights deal, Fifa awarded the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia via a show of Uncontested applause from its members, thereby completing what is no doubt an entirely illusory circle of hand-washing.

Some interesting background on DAZN.

You’re not suggesting FIFA is corrupt?

So far its all posturing & positioning.

When it gets down to actual bidding watch the leaks flow from both PVL & 9. By the time we hear a deal has been done it will be weeks after the handshake and when the lawyers have ticked off on it.

Buzz was pretty nonchalant about dazn not getting the tv rights

If Stan do get the rights they would need to get a lot of the fox commentators on board

Would wonder if they still ran nrl360 or just brushed the nrl entirely

NRL bosses Peter V’landys and Andrew Abdo met with the world’s most powerful sporting administrator – NFL boss Roger Goodell – in the US last week to secure support for next year’s Las Vegas season-opener.

Goodell is so highly regarded that he earns $70 million a year to run the NFL — the code that fills the overwhelming majority of the top 100 shows on US television every year.

V’landys revealed after the meeting in New York that Goodell has agreed to assist with rugby league’s season-opening extravaganza in Las Vegas in a massive boost for rugby league.

In return the NRL will help with the NFL’s promotion for the code’s first ever regular season game in Australia next year in Melbourne between the Los Angeles Rams and a yet to be determined rival.

“Expanding to Australia underlines our ambitions to become a global sport and accelerate international growth,” Goodell recently said.

Australia is a significant global market for the NFL with a growing fan base of 6.6 million across the country.

V’landys says having a relationship with Goodell is huge for rugby league.

“We spoke about a lot,” V’landys said.

“We basically made a decision to support each other in what we’re trying to achieve in both countries.

“We’ll back what they’re doing in Australia and they’ll back us in Las Vegas from a promotional sense.

“It is a really important relationship that we’ve been able to establish."

The meeting lasted more than an hour at NFL headquarters.

They discussed TV rights for global sport and how the NFL shares its broadcast deal with three major networks – CBS, NBC, Fox, and ESPN/ABC.

Their deal is worth $110 billion over 10 years.

“I found Roger a fantastic guy,” V’landys said.

“Really down to earth, really intelligent.

“We had an hour (chatting) with him. He even invited us back for the Superbowl.

“He doesn’t know rugby league well but is aware of what we’re trying to achieve in Vegas each year.”

Goodell will be in Australia mid next year as part of a promotional tour for the NFL game in Melbourne.

“We’re going to catch up when he’s next here,” V’landys said.

“We’ll take him to a game, most likely State of Origin.”

V’landys and Abdo also met with TV executives from the major global streaming services including DAZN owner Len Blavatnik — worth $41 billion, and News Corp global chiefs Lachlan Murdoch and Robert Thompson.

If PVL does a record broadcast deal and gets any sort of traction with the NRL brand in America. He needs to be an immortal. If there was ever a case for a non player to get the honour it's him for what he's done for the game.

Buzz is getting closer to retirement. I think he reported on the 1978 GF.

So I endorse giving BOTH FTA TV Networks NRL action. Have a swap where one shows a game on FTA while the other has it on their pay platform. This makes it more value as they can monetize some action thru their Pay platform. All up 4games to both. Ten and Nine would eat it up. After all it is our product.

What did the AFL get - $642 m ? I thought PVL was targeting $600m … ?
Included 80 million Telstra each year

Some of that for running afl websites ….

But some also includes Telstra “spending” on the afl owned marvel stadium

Nrl doesn’t include digital media when it mentions the tv deal

Afl tv deal is around 580 or 590 million tops

You cant mention something as part of a deal if you didnt include it and arent selling it. The AFL does, excluding Telstras contribution for the rights it needs for highlights and replays and other parts of the AFL website network is just willfully being ignorant.

Noting that Telstras sponsorship of the NRL and NRW premiership includes similar spending to the AFLs telstra infrastructure deal.
