To sign expensive players you need to lose expensive players. The Dolphins didn't need to clear any dud contracts when they came into the comp. Their entire cap was free. The Dogs recruited plenty of plodders while they were waiting for overpaid players to get off the books. We are having to do the same.

Iongi is as good as Talagi, and Kautoga and JAC are at least as good as Alamoti and Jenkins.

Gutherson 800,Dylan,l900k Rcg 750k,Sivo 500l are expensive players. Ofenghue would of been on decent coin.400k
We also hopefully get rid of Lane and Matto.600k each
There about 5 mill yeah??

They've built a side that looks capable of winning a title.
We never built that. We are like Sharks
If they built this side in the middle of Penrith's premiership window then no, they wouldn't have a side capable of winning the comp. And how good are they really? They only have the eighth best defence in the NRL. Hardly premiership material.

Your idea of an expensive player is 20 years old. The average salary under a $12M cap is $400k. That said, we have replaced most of those guys with Williams, JAC, Walker, TDS and Iongi. Lane and Matterson are still on the books. You can't just remove blokes from the cap because they've stopped performing or the coach doesn't like them. Lane's mental health issue is treated as a long term injury. It's 2025. You can't just sack the guy.

So we blew all our money on 3 bench players and a nsw cup kid?
I don't think so. Id say we have heaps of cash but nobody to spend it on at present.
Fingers crossed big signings to come

Then they should put the merkin on the weekly injured list, return date indefinite.

There's no source that it's a mental health issue - just that Lane was "considering his future in rugby league" after being dropped, despite having an option to activate for next season as well.

Sounds more like code for no longer in the coach's plans... but Lane is on the RLPA Board, so you can be sure he knows his contract entitlements and how to work them in his favour.

don't think the Raiders result was all doom....

yeah plenty to improve but the score only blew out in the last 10 mins.

Poor completion rate (59%), to many errors (16) along with 5 penalties (we got 1), and 4 six again (we got none), meant we ran out of gas in the last 10. These things can be fixed.

Additionally we had a few players out too, Moses is a big loses. Both starting edges are out. Moretti was also going ok before his injury.

Plenty to work on, but last 2 weeks we have gone with the 2 in form teams, with poor completions, errors and lots of players out.

This is basically it... We were only down by 6 with 8 minutes to go.

If we cut out the dumb shit and completed we probably go closer to winning it.

Raiders won it with their burst in the first 10 and last 10.

Though we are relying on some backups to play far too Many NRL games..

Errors = Low quality players
Penalties = Low quality players

That is what makes them Low quality players. They make errors and give away dumb Penalties.

This will improve when we replace them with higher quality players.

I always like to use Mondays to reflect on life and look for something to put my lot in perspective so here's some perspective on Eel's season so far.

We're only 3 wins behind 10th spot and a team that has no salary cap constraints with basically a 1st grade team in reserve. That same team has a starting Legendary NSW Fullback, Wallaby winger, QLD Origin squad half and 5/8, basically state of origin combined forward pack in the QLD Prop, NSW hooker, NSW Prop, NSW 2nd row with England lock and NZed prop thrown in.

Us? Well we have basically offloaded our entire GF squad from 2 seasons ago replaced with a bunch of no-names, still without our superstar and Australia halfback, resting our NZed 5/8 to seek out our future 5/8 to replace a so-close-yet-so-far miss on what we're told is the greatest prospective 5/8 since Brad Fittler, after losing our prospective young-gun 5/8 to the 4 Peats and the other up and coming half to Ricky's Raiders.

We've had an appalling run of shocking ref calls with the most defining for mine the touchie call on JAC vs Dragons on a disallowed try that would have leveled up scores after an amazing comeback. Beat the Dragons there and we'd be 2 games shy of 10th, with the Dragons taking our spot on the ladder.

Coulda, woulda shoulda but I'm loving seeing our new attack formations, frustrated with the dumb plays but can see brighter days, weeks and years ahead if we keep on this path of improvement.

Well said. Great perspective.

Or just as they get more experience. Four of our team on Saturday were still eligible for Flegg. Only two of Canberra’s were. We had another three guys with fewer than 20 NRL games. Canberra only had one. This is why we made more mistakes than they did.

Sure but if their ceiling is NSW CUP then they can play 100 NRL games and still be NSW cup level due to not being physically gifted.

R.Smiths a good example
He is all energy and effort but in 15 games averages 17 run mtrs. Hasn't had 1 x LBA or 1 x TA and his support play is non existent.
At some point you'd have to question his ceiling. He can't run or play make. He can tackle and has energy. Is he better then Hands or Lussick or just younger. Hands for mine is superior.

Ryles disagrees with you.
