I always like to use Mondays to reflect on life and look for something to put my lot in perspective so here's some perspective on Eel's season so far.
We're only 3 wins behind 10th spot and a team that has no salary cap constraints with basically a 1st grade team in reserve. That same team has a starting Legendary NSW Fullback, Wallaby winger, QLD Origin squad half and 5/8, basically state of origin combined forward pack in the QLD Prop, NSW hooker, NSW Prop, NSW 2nd row with England lock and NZed prop thrown in.
Us? Well we have basically offloaded our entire GF squad from 2 seasons ago replaced with a bunch of no-names, still without our superstar and Australia halfback, resting our NZed 5/8 to seek out our future 5/8 to replace a so-close-yet-so-far miss on what we're told is the greatest prospective 5/8 since Brad Fittler, after losing our prospective young-gun 5/8 to the 4 Peats and the other up and coming half to Ricky's Raiders.
We've had an appalling run of shocking ref calls with the most defining for mine the touchie call on JAC vs Dragons on a disallowed try that would have leveled up scores after an amazing comeback. Beat the Dragons there and we'd be 2 games shy of 10th, with the Dragons taking our spot on the ladder.
Coulda, woulda shoulda but I'm loving seeing our new attack formations, frustrated with the dumb plays but can see brighter days, weeks and years ahead if we keep on this path of improvement.
