Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

There is some real head in the sand stuff by rugby australia. Its not really all about the talent. The coaching is pretty ordinary. I am not necessarily talking about super and international rugby, its lower than that.
Too much nepotism in terms of player selection and coaching. not forgetting school boy rugby. People salivate over it but the coaching there is pretty ordinary too, so the players are being developed as well as they should, most of that comes from them also being in RL systems

I would suggest their problem is the spectacle of the game itself …it wouldn’t matter if they had the best athletes ( they don’t )… bit hard to say your game is boring though, and the European teams don’t care , so this talent narrative gets trotted out as an excuse …

In a perverse way RL taking a short-term hit with losing a few players to R360 will benefit the game in the longer term.

the civil war in union this will create will be devastating for the game if it actually happens.

Honestly the NRL players who would go, would tend to be at the end of their careers happy to take one last big payday. It's rugby that has more to lose. Cause with the squad sizes needed, and forwards which would be a large majority of those numbers, it would make a lot of club comps look medicore in Rugby.

The NRL could and can absorb the hit while union on the other hand would be devastated both domestic competitions and international game.

Gb winning a tour once in 50 years would’ve helped

Rugby looks shit when it's played with the best players, what does it look like when the talent is second rate? This is just another complexity to what is already a shit show.
Thinning out an already thin talent pool.
All the while, their junior numbers are finding their way to League.

Honestly I preferred the Shute shield more than I liked the top level Rugby. But once Stan put it behind a pay system, I couldn't care less. But at the end of the day it's park footy and looks like it.

Imagine R360 marketing in the city they play in....

"The excitement machine from the last world cup, Tom Jarden, is in town the excite the throng of Rugby fans.

Tries, kicks and bone crunching tackles. The world's best players all together to put on a rugby extravaganza!!

<<Insert city here>> is sure to be entertained with 4 consecutive games at City stadium

Get your tickets now to watch;

Blue vs Red
Green vs Yellow
Purple vs White
Grey vs Brown"

Now the team batch uis, I've made to look as tepid as possible, but I can't see any arrangement of the crowd having any attachment to the teams in display

One of the comments on the Roar article argues against recruiting Papenhuyzen as no one in Spain is getting excited about an NRL player they've never heard of.

I hate to break it to them, but no one in Spain is getting excited about any Rugby (either code) player.

Youre joking right ?

Fitzsimmons tells us that Union is the fastest growing sport in Spain ! The whole country is glued to thier TV watching the Lions V Wallabies

If R360 goes ahead there isnt a stadiun big enough to fill the demand for tickets for the Rugby mad Spanish.

I would think that in places like the UK the quality of the players in the international team won't make much difference to the level of support from the crowd or sponsors.
It will make a difference in places like NZ and Australia

I quite like Kenty's summation of this...

It doesn't matter how much you throw at it....razz mattaz, fireworks, exciting stadia around the world...it will still be a game of kick and clap and therefore dull to watch

Like a turd rolled in glitter

Mark Foster on Tindall'sv podcast has also something like people will be expected to spend £300-£500 each a match once good and drinks, ticket and buying a shirt all stuck in

Unreal mentality and utter shite

It will fail a 1000 deaths
