I wonder what kind of money they'd bring in for a game like this.

Would it be roughly the same regardless of whoever makes it, or would it be a case of risk vs reward (pay a lot more to a bigger developer initially, but bring in a lot more once released)?

A shit to good game will bring in the same amount of money.

An actually fun game will go viral and bring in new sales and fans.

NFL 2K5 was $50 and made me a fan of the sport.

An exceptional rugby league game you sell for $20usd in other markets.

By "An actully fun game", do you mean a 'as close to realistic' as RL26 is meant to be (but, of course, without all the glitches, errors, rushed release problems), or do you mean a caricature type of sports game such as NBA Jam back in the day?

I like what RL26 is trying to be (and with all the bugs and errors fixed, it might still be in the future), but I've, for years, kinda liked the idea of a less serious, more fun League game. I think it's the Tokyo Olympics PS4 game that has rugby union sevens in it, and while that's an overly simplified game, it leans toward fun moreso than realism, and I liked that vibe.

It'll never happen, but I'd like to see a (completed upon release!) continuation of the RL26 series maybe every 4th year, with a fun caricature version of a League game 2yrs later, also on a 4yr release schedule. A new League game every 2yrs, but with 4yrs development for each game by the time it comes out.

Fantasy land, I know, but one can dream occasionally..!

Yep. Ross Symons is still the shyster he always was. What a shame there's no competition in NRL game developers to put him out of business.

They've pushed a lot of updates over the past few days - Stats have been put back into the half time and full time menus (season stats are still missing), money from game day tasks is actually coming in now etc.

Still a shit game but they're at least trying to update some of the low hanging fruit.

I know two people who bought it. One refunded same day as purchased. The other holding out for an update.

If the updates continue rolling through into the NRL off-season then I'll buy it on Steam sale when its super cheap. Can't justify $99 when the game is such a mess.
Yeah ARL 96 was better, Lucky enough I did get a refund from Jbhifi normally they don't do it when you remove the packaging, but funny releasing a game where some of the grounds had no side lines.

The whole release was just a mess - Why they rushed it I have no idea - No one was expecting anything when they announced it so why they didn't push it out a month or 2 for some actual end user testing amazes me.

Plenty of other, bigger gaming companies have pushed out games before they were ready (e.g. EA Games with Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2017).

Battlefront 2 was in a pretty good state at launch from memory.

It just had insidious micro transactions.

Cyberpunk came in hot in 2020.
I still play Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the xbox series x...It's still agreat game online.

I still play it to this day. It still has a lot of bugs or problems in it (e.g. On PC, the "group" chat when you are in a group with friends is available to be read by everyone in the lobby, including the opposing team). Also don't get me started on the laughable "matchmaking" system that was introduced post launch which is absolute garbage.

That game was rushed to release.
