Hopefully a good outcome comes from this with some more stringent regulations around trainers taking the piss.

We can only hope.

But I am not confident; 6 years ago a trainer being in the wrong place at the wrong time potentially stopped a try being scored in the GF. Nothing really changed after that..

Whether they scored shortly after or not is not the issue. As you said, To'o is not a grubby player which i totally agree, but should have been a penalty try. The question is why it wasn't awarded with the bunker saying "we have cleared it up to this point". There was a discussion the past week on LU about lower ranked teams copping dodgy decisions and that is another example.
It was a bad decision; no doubt. I agree with Soc, given they scored off the next set it didn’t really impact the result.

But plenty of dodgy decisions on both sides. Edwards knocking on and being ruled ‘dropped onto his boot’. Paps being called for a ball plant when he hadn’t planted the ball. Catchers being taken out by chasers not playing the ball. Bad strip calls supported by the bunker.

Point being; is it a question of lower based teams getting dodgy calls? Or just the referees being bad overall, and the lower based teams not having the skill or resilience to overcome the inevitable bad calls that come?

What do you mean? He placed the ball on the ground before he was entitled to, it was a text book example of a ball-plant.

A lot to like out of the Panthers performance, but Papali'i's form leaves a lot to be desired.

He has some good ones and some awful ones. Trending in the right direction though after an awful start to the season.

IMO the bigger controversy (and with a bigger impact) was the piss weak call on the To'o high shot on Sami. There's a very strong argument for a penalty try. To'o got him high and hard, and it's easy to see Sami was groggy and not in full control as he went over the try line and his foot dangled out. One could easily believe that if not for the high shot, Sami would have kept his boot in the field of play and scored.
That's called getting Badgered. Routinely f**ks up the most obvious of calls. Zero feel for the game.

Cant argue with that one. To'o isn't a grub, but it was high, and was the definition of a penalty try. They scored a few plays later and converted, so it didn't have any bearing on the result fortunately.
Slightly disagree. To’o should’ve been sin-binned for high contact, a lot less has been binned in the Princess era.

During the crackdown, yes. Now it's back to being a lottery. No shoulder involved, so it's on the penalty sufficient side of the ledger now. Had it been a penalty try like it should have been sin bin is off the table.

They would have been lining up the conversion for the penalty try when they did score. A bad referee decision doesn't alter the space time continuum.
The space-time continuum doesn't have to be altered. The Tits lost by 4 pts, and were clearly on a roll. I've always been an advocate of the theory that good teams overcome bad refereeing, but to say that the decision had no bearing on the result is a stretch at best.

They scored 60 seconds later. If it was 5 minutes later then you might have a point.
