At best it’ll go for a few yearsI don't see this as anything other than a complete failure
What if they change the rules like rugby league ?

This is another thing that needs to stop with Union, it's not European in the sense that there's European wide interest in the sport. It's the UK, Ireland and France, that's it, three countries. No one else gives a f**k at any meaningful level. Rugby Union having "European" interest is as laughable as them having "global" interest.
If it was Rugby league I wouldn't watch it.At best it’ll go for a few years

A few months ago when the news first broke they said there will be rule changes to make it more entertaining for a global audience. I cant think of many rules they could change without basically making it Rugby League. What if they change the rules like rugby league ?
Yes good pointAssuming R360 happens and Super Rugby, Top 14 and the English Premiership lose all thier star players, would broadcasters be able to opt out of thier contract ?
If Super Rugby loses thier best 50 players Nine dont wont to pay 45m pa for a comp devoid of stars.
Could Nine cut the contract becuase Super Rugby hasnt delivered the product Nine paid for ?
Interesting, like a breech of contract of sorts.Assuming R360 happens and Super Rugby, Top 14 and the English Premiership lose all thier star players, would broadcasters be able to opt out of thier contract ?

I used to live in Argentina and I have a Japanese girlfriend so I am very familiar with both countries and their culture and neither country holds Rugby Union as important in the culture and is certainly not in the national psyche. Sports reports on the news in Japan focus almost entirely on Baseball, Soccer and during important events, Sumo wrestling. Argentina is soccer first... everything else 27th.Overall, "globally", Union has the British, Irish, France, Italy, South Africa, Australia, NZ, Argentina, Japan and Pacific Island countries.
Italy typically comes last in six nations. Rugby has gone downhill here (in Australia) since 2003 and in the Pacific Islands, they experience a player drain, which therefore weakens Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.
And i think rugby is only a national sport in NZ, Wales, South Africa, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.
Not sure how r360 will work. They are trying to copy Formula One. But Formula One has global appeal.
It’s not because the tourism numbers to South America speak for themselves.
This gives an idea of how the Wahs etc have impacted even the South Island, my son in law is a kiwi from Timaru, the Warriors game agst the Eels last season - 6 of his longtime friend from there flew over to watch the game. Always were Union fans, now follow league as much, and don’t miss a Warriors game on TV.The sooner we get a second NRL franchise on the South Island of New Zealand the better. Should’ve been fast forwarded instead that Pacifica crap.
And Rugby Union would absolutely hate a second NRL team in New Zealand. This gives an idea of how the Wahs etc have impacted even the South Island, my son in law is a kiwi from Timaru, the Warriors game agst the Eels last season - 6 of his longtime friend from there flew over to watch the game. wouldn’t have said that even 5 years ago.
The news of a 'rebel league' was breaking when Nine were in negotiatuons with Rugby Australia.Interesting, like a breech of contract of sorts.
also do you think its a little convienient that all the reports are about league stars leaving, while they are currently trying to negotiate a new broadcast deal? The news of a 'rebel league' was breaking when Nine were in negotiatuons with Rugby Australia.
Nine would have been mental not to have clauses in the contract that they could get out or re-negotiate a new deal if Super Rugby lost 50 players.
It’s not moving the goalposts. Many rugby tours to South America incorporate trips to Uruguay and more recently, Chile. Any Lions tour would be the exact same. The flight times are not lengthy and comparing to a continent like Australia is a bit ridiculous.Do they ? What are they then ? Have we also moved the goalposts from Argentina to all of South America?
yes - as long as they get British people to travel around Australia and buy tickets they will keep it goingThey can sell over 200k tickets just to the tests.
Nobody is leaving that on the table
I will give up supporting the Parramatta Eels and watch the Pittsburgh Walters at 3am every Sunday morningWhat if they change the rules like rugby league ?
it’s hugely popular going to Australia for British people which is my argument ……those numbers are available…around 600k a year … I can’t find the numbers for Argentina … I would say they are less and you can even throw in Chile and Uruguay as well….It’s not moving the goalposts. As a travel destination, it is hugely popular. Its popularity from individuals is of course not met with its opportunities to host big events, because of the broader environment there.
