3. RTS - inspired again, worrying that he's also the fastest back we have after he's lost a yard of pace
2. TMM - our attack clicked when he came on, we can't have him warming the bench this much
1. Pompey - best game he's had in a while, shades of JRO feeding Manu at times

HM Halasima the obvious one. Boyd too, I really like that he doesn't go missing and wants to take on the line.
We go up a notch when Fish and Clark return to the field.

Rest were middling, Dallin made some decent carries but he's just so slow and can't win any foot race. Neither can CNK. Would absolutely kill to have just one JAC or Savage out there turning space into huge runs or points.

DMs, Niukore had some good runs later but he was lazy af on defence twice.
Egan was bad, and could be a wake up call with the spark TMM and Healey bring.

3 - Pompey
2 - Roger
1 - CNK

both RTS and CNK cracked the 300m mark, huge efforts.

DM for the bunker and officials, other than the no-try there were a couple of clean Parra knock-ons that they let go.

agree on Pompey.
Niukore has played all 23 games and looks cooked. I wouldnt want him to be getting big minutes in the playoffs but it doesnt look like we have much choice. or we do have a choice and the other choice is Ford? yikes.
Egan has faded again at pretty much the same time as last year.

CNK’s stats will look good but, and I say this as a fan of him, tonight a lot of that was just getting in the way. When we’re on our 10th consecutive “5 hit ups and kick” set of 6, CNK taking his 2nd carry of the set really isn’t doing anything for us

3 RTS
2 Pompey
1 Halasima

HM Boyd...

I won't mind if I never see DWZ in a Warriors jersey again.
Webster has to get the team firing earlier. 4 points in the first half is crazy.

For one of our big men most of the time Niukore is as hard to find as Tom Phillips.

3 - RTS - pretty hard to go past RTS again
2 - JFH - thought this was his best game so far as a Wah
1 - Leka - a really strong 45 minutes, on both sides of the ball, which almost won us the game

HMs:

Pompey - almost gave him a point, thought he was really strong
Clark - his usual
TMM - brought spark - almost gave him a point, too
TSS - getting better week by week
Vaimauga - is consistently good
Boyd, CHT - combination is beginning to build - however, we need to start playing some football earlier, rather than waiting until we're either chasing or comfortably ahead

DM: Egan - thought he had his worst game of the season

Other thoughts: for the first 50 minutes of the game I thought we were done - while there was so much space on attack we did so little with it and just made dumb error after dumb error. Then we started playing some football and I thought we would win, until the bunker took the game away (it probably was a knock on, but was it conclusive enough to be overturned if ref awarded it as a try?). So yeah, we need to start moving the ball around a lot earlier. That's the only way we'll be competitive in the playoffs, imo. Defend hard, obviously, and don't be stupid about it, but we need to create doubt along with putting the opposition under fatigue.

CNK - monster efforts, as usual, but is it just me or is he a bit of a play killer when he gets the ball in the red zone?

Niukore much more involved offensively, which was great, but his lack of defensive effort on the Fox, and in the scramble for that second try, were pretty frustrating.

EIT might be the Wah Goggins, and he played with real effort for all his minutes, but it was always going to be hard for a rookie to back up last week's performance.

Capewell's looking a bit cooked.

Dunno how we'll go against Manly next week. They don't seem particularly interested in defense, but the style we're playing unless we're forced to do otherwise, I don't know if we'll be able to exploit that.

CNK has his strengths but creating something out of nothing inside the red zone isn’t one of them - that’s Tuapiki’s strength. CNK is best running off a play orchestrated by his halves either creating an overlap or hitting a hole at pace, he was used really well that way by SJ in 2023. His other main strength is his ability to run hard at tacklers and make post-contact yardage but that is mainly advantageous on kick returns and in the middle third.
