what’s the latest with the ESL expansion ?

I saw the owner of Trinity wants to move to 16 teams ?
Agreement is to go to 14 clubs if 2 clubs can prove they will add value and be viable in SL. Top 12 teams to be decided by grading same as last year, 2 to be added by review if they can make the grade,

This was one of the most iconic club rugby grounds in the world

Huge loss for Wigan

Jjb isn’t too bad but it’s way out of town

In comparison the NRL has ever club profitable.
I think the NRL should forget the acquisition of hotels and make the acquisition of Super league the priority.
There's massive potential over there if it's done right!

They will let superleague rot and start new comp over there

If the super league tv deal goes back to 40 million pa then that would wipe out club losses on average

Dazn getting the nrl rights could give them the competition they need

There’s a decent core in super league now of clubs. Other than giants and Salford the rest are at an ok level now

Hull kr and Leigh have had massive growth, and Wakey are following the same path with ground and crowd improvements

Cas have always been a decent super league club even if wheldon rd is a dump

Bradford london and toulose will offer a lot to super league too and they may end up getting some kind of French tv deal over time with two French clubs and toulose being a big city where rugby is strong

English will sort out their own problems but may work with nrl for more games with nrl clubs and more tests plus Vegas

Yeah, why invest in revenue generating assets when you can “invest” in a loss making competition in a market the nrl has no history or understanding of.

NRL can get higher deal. Owning two comps allows NRL to leverage one for the other.

NRL has no history selling rugby league to rugby league market. They're the only logical owner.

The only point of revenue is to grow and future proof our game.
This is exactly WHY we are trying to grow revenue.

Do you want to see the hotels do well or Rugby league do well?

It’s to safeguard against risk, investing in ESL is risk, to prioritise investing in the Esl over revenue generating assets is to prioritise risk. It’s idiocy.

It’s incredibly arrogant to think the nrl will waltz in into the north of England and suddenly make the ESL successful & profitable. These are the same geniuses that still have finals being played out of a cronulla construction site FFS…

so the NRL, who have added Dolphins,Perth , PNG , opening the season in Vegas, attendance records , ratings records, every club profitable with spare change to start buying up hotels, new stadium in Penrith , upgrade for Cambeltown, upgrade for Liechart, new Townsville stadium..Alianz.on the verge of the biggest TV deal in the games history..THE BIGGEST RUGBY COMP IN THE WORLD.,.. can't improve SL cause Cronulla?

Well that settles it lol

The irony here is Cronulla are actually successful, profitable and that construction site is better than most SL stadiums.
Yes, hopefully the NRL can step in and bring SL up to Cronulla standard.

If they get broadcast for 10 team comp to begin with it becomes immediately profitable

Lockyer wouldn’t be investing if they weren’t guaranteed a spot surely ?

And the club in super league would lose over a million pounds easy that’s a big annual cost to cover
