Is the PNG club even gonna happen?

What the f**k is wrong with you?
mate please, it was an extension of a ludicrous idea I quoted that NRL clubs must sign two PNG U/16 or U/18 players. It is an awfully strong assumption that the best thing for a 16 year old PNG native is to take them to another country for the purpose of player performance. I thought that would be clearly obvious.
someones gone way off the reservation
lol, yeah, it would seem some people can't see my response was facetious.

My point is that forcing NRL clubs to take two 16 yo PNG natives into their academies is not a good idea. Especially when the Aus Government are pumping in $660m to ensure that there is an appropriate pathway for PNG juniors in Moresby and throughout the country.

Giving PNG players the option to sign with NRL clubs and potentially completely change their lives isn’t comparable to the f**king stolen generation. It was a dumb f**king thing to say.

Im not saying i agree with that idea btw, you can disagree without that ludicrous comparison.

It was tongue in cheek Karen.

Did you really deduce from my comments that I am a fan of the policies of the stolen generation?

Get a grip for heaven’s sake.

The suggestion I responded to wasn’t to give PNG players an “option” and whilst my reference to a dark history was tongue in cheek, I think I made my real point blindingly obvious that the whole purpose of the Federal Government’s financing of the PNG team and the Pacific (outside of international relations) is to allow PNG families to prosper through sport in their own country.

From a govt policy perspective it's honestly not too different to uni scholarship / study /intern abroad schemes we already run with PNG in fields they are looking to upskill by carrying more knowledge of outside practices back home to improve their home industries. Happens in a wide range of fields from medical, education, mining etc.

Slight difference is the age of the participants is a few years younger but to genuinely give them a shot at top level sport, it probably has to be.

I hate Weidler …he continually bites the hand that has fed him his entire life…

Having said that ..perceptions are reality
Sounds like some of the club ceo are leaking to him. My guess is Shane Richo

“The big concern is, what happens if the team doesn’t take off? Do NRL clubs have to pay back the money, or is that the responsibility of the NRL?

Perhaps the real anger will come from taxpayers who are giving money to NRL teams over a project that may not get off the ground.

The funding promise is based on China not gaining a foothold in PNG. It has been reported that Australia can withdraw the funding at any time and without cause. But the whole idea of a team in PNG does not sit comfortably with many people in and around the game. A rugby league side being a political pawn is difficult to stomach.

But the clubs are primarily concerned with their own bank balances and survival.

And here’s another fact to consider when it comes to PNG: the lure of tax-free income has been dangled in front of players and staff. We have been told it has been rubber-stamped by the Australian government. And the NRL also says players and staff won’t pay tax on property they have in Australia that could have been considered investment properties because players had moved to PNG and were no longer living in them.

The NRL says it is confident the PNG franchise will be a success.”

Las is more for Richo

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson has been the biggest opponent of the Las Vegas season openers. But he has made this concession: “We will go to Vegas ... we want to play against PNG there.” I’m not sure if he is joking, but he asked to be quoted on that.”

He had a crack at the Perth bears too

High-flying clubs aren't complaining. Remember broncos and all the shi..they got when they started in NRL?!

I think a lot of skepticism stems from the nrl being so under resourced that most things seem to take forever. V’landys came in and gutted what many labeled a bloated admin, which was probably right, but now the game is trying to grow and the admin doesn’t appear to be growing with it because of V’landys cost saving mantra. It’s probably also why Abdo was looking for an exit. The bears apparently haven’t even been given funding for a recruitment boss yet, png lost their ceo ostensibly without a fight by the nrl. Being tight with the games finances is no good if it’s going to cost you money in the long term.

To be fair no location for the athletes village let alone when construction will start some doubts are ok

Sounds like Richo is just negative he’s totally against Vegas too but he’s doing a great job for the tigers to be fair

Where's the evidence he's doing a " great" job at the tigers? They keep losing their brightest prospects, one was directly an effect of his big mouth.
What purpose exactly does it serve the Tigers to be undermining the administration?
Don't act surprised when they get a shit draw.

Let’s not jump to any conclusions …. 17 CEO’s on the call….nothing to indicate it was Richo …he is no fan of Weidler

100 million for Lo and Campbelltown (latter still needs a bit of work) just by asking

They’ve got loads of talented juniors besides Galvin

Dunno how loads of Aussie schoolboys and junior union stars

Richo is wrong to bag png and Vegas but that’s his opinion

Reckon 70 to 80 percent of nrl fans would be anti png tbh at this stage
