MLB as in Major League Baseball ?wow
- But younger Sydneysiders are branching out, leaning into UFC, NBA, and MLB.
I`m not a fan of UFC but its` raw physicality has a lot more in common with League than fumbles, I wonder if it is a demand for `authenticity` by younger audience`s sick of everything delivered to them being staged and tailored to the nth degree.wow
- In Victoria, age plays a big role. The 55+ crowd are the key drivers of the AFL’s dominance. Meanwhile, younger Victorians (18–34) are significantly less likely to back AFL compared to the State average, showing stronger interest in UFC.
- In New South Wales, 55+ Australians are still the most loyal to Rugby League. But younger Sydneysiders are branching out, leaning into UFC, NBA, and MLB.
The next 20-30 years will be very interesting as the older gens die off, the AFL will be stuck trying to market their slow, long game to Gen Z and below. The demos already favour the NRL there and the NRL is going very well on socials and the podcast scene.League is growing even in Sydney
You can see the growth in the jump on fta audiences
It’s also growing strongly in Victoria and even Perth the tv ratings are better than expected
Down the track you wonder the core afl base won’t demand a shorter game as the current older generation die off and gen x have a shorter attention span
Overall id say if ratings are up that’s a damn good result. This finals series features a lot of teams who aren’t particularly high draws in terms of viewership (dogs, broncos and storm admittedly would be some of our higher drawing teams).
i know this is just one persons experience but i’m in melbs for weekend and i went to pub to watch raiders v broncos and i was thinking im gonna hassle owners to put nrl on one small tv but nah there was decent amount people who were actively watching it on main tv and getting fired up
good to see
I dont know if it was good luck or good planning, but having a game on a Sunday with zero AFL clashes was a great result for the NRL in Vic.i know this is just one persons experience but i’m in melbs for weekend and i went to pub to watch raiders v broncos and i was thinking im gonna hassle owners to put nrl on one small tv but nah there was decent amount people who were actively watching it on main tv and getting fired up

Last Sunday Nine News averaged 1.477m so there was definitely a boost due to the footy running overtime.2.037m reach 1.054m avg might end up adjusted yet with the overrun into the news which did 3.078m reach & 1.766m avg
Damn that’s super impressive. The raiders aren’t a high drawing team either. Would be amazing if all the Sunday games popped off like this, arvo finals footy is f**king amazing. Watching the game and having a BBQ is how things should be.2.037m reach 1.054m avg might end up adjusted yet with the overrun into the news which did 3.078m reach & 1.766m avg
was there any numbers around the south africa v all blacks match? @The_Wookie
The NRL game rated quite well in Melbourne really. I don’t have a good point of comparison but the NRLW numbers seem good.
