I still don't think you grasp the quality aspect.

If SL is 10 teams but those teams have:
* twice as much talent/ stars!
* Every team has a realistic chance of winning it!
* NRL level game play!
* The toughest, most exciting, fastest Rugby competition in the northern hemisphere!

There's literally twice as many people tuning in!!!

As it stands, there's 4 or 5 good clubs worth watching... You would be doubling the amount of good clubs worth watching!

Given how entrenched supporter bases are in Northern English RL, it would just mean alienating a whole bunch of fans, and likely losing them to the game altogether.

If the standard of play becomes better for Rugby league - the result is Rugby league " fans" turn away.. they will be replaced at 2 to 1.
