All American teams in college football tend / tended to play a big role in the players getting recognition in a very, very crowded "arena" for the purpose of their draft prospects.
It is so hard to get recognition unless you are in one of the big teams like Notre Dame, OSU or Alabama etc.

Not really. The term is used in other countries. All American can refer to the best college football players in the US for example.
There has always been like 5 different conferences (traditionally based on geographic areas) that hardly know one another and 130 first division teams in college football.
Fans know their own players and some star QBs and that is it really.
The concept is important in college football for that reason and also the related reason I mentioned above.

Ok AFL defense league, where do you think the AFL, with clear Irish connections got the term from?

My time to shine (i studied linguistics and speak irish poorly as my name suggests)

Irish doesnt have a linguistics structure that matches “all ireland”. Our closest is “Erie uile” but i dont know of anyone using that type of term.

germanic uses this structure all the time. Odin as the “all-father” (alfodr) is the earlierst historical example i know.

from what i understand, “All Ireland games” was an english branding because the couldnt pronounce the real name

Who cares, it's called the All Ireland Gaelic Football Championships, just one example of the use of the term in Ireland.

Where does it come from that AFL is linked to Ireland? Thats about the most shameful allegation ever made about Ireland.

Can we stop saying this.

I don't know much about College Football but I do know some teams, bowl games get the same size and even more then the NFL but do 130 first divison teams get massive support ?

Last I looked the smallest division 1 team was Ball State and they get a 10k crowd. The average of the 130 would be in the 40k I would reckon. I'd say the top 50 teams get over 40k.
