Difference is the top players in the big soccer leagues are on huge wages already and going to the lower standard league in Saudi almost guaranteed they would lose their national team place. Some have gone to Saudi for even more money but the drawback is you have to live in Saudi and also you have to stay for 3 years (?) for the money is tax free.

Ronaldo was already worth something ridiculous and was happy to take the ridiculous money they offered him.

I will be shocked if the NRL is impacted to any degree.
Yes thats true and silly of me to comment on it.
Just don't want any harm to TGG like what happened 30 years ago when I got into Rugby League as the delights of 1994/1995 of the ARL went into an awful time 1996 to 2001 and I became a fan of Rubgy Union in that time because of internationals , 6 Nations and Super 12 just for me egg chasing fix.

Someone else posted it but post super league years the salary cap was around 2 to 3 million. News Ltd owned half the game and made sure our tv deals were awful

Salary cap is now 12.5 million with clubs receiving 17.5 million

By 2028 when the new tv deal comes in salary cap will be 16 to 17 million and clubs receiving around 25 million

Already talk about top nrl players on 2 million pa

Plus two more teams who will need 60 more players

Away from the finances and everything don’t get how this concept works as a ‘magic round’ type event. 4 games of rugby union back to back, regardless of the standard, does not make for a fun day. I’m sure even the most ardent of Union fans would be bored shitless by half-time of the 2nd game.

Top level Rugby Union averages ball in play of ~35 mins per game. So for 4 games, you’re gonna have to sit for at least 6 hours (more likely 8 with half times and breaks between games) for 2 hours of ‘entertainment’, and even then, the majority of that 2 hours is that fat lads having a cuddle inbetween tackles. It’s a dreadful concept is this.

That’s before we even get into the whole ‘made up’ teams with no supporter base, every player in every team being a complete mercenary.

Didn’t we spend 100 years deriding union for imposing life bans on players swapping codes? Now you think us doing the same is a good thing?
I was referring to the player agents. As long as players don't break contract they can do what they want.

“SHOOSH
The mail is getting much stronger that Blues Origin forward Angus Crichton will be the next major target of R360. The timing is perfect as he is off contract at the Roosters next year. Crichton will be named this week as part of the Australian squad for the Kangaroo tour.”

Retirement home
Problem is, although I don't think R360 will last more than a few seasons, the Wallabies will get access to.NRL stars through the backdoor out of all this. R360 have said they are happy to release players for international duties.

This is the biggest issue with R360 the Wallabies are nothing at the moment and their popularity and competitiveness can be restored with NRL talent and star power and the broke ARU and failing Super Rugby (Union) don't have to spend a cent to do it.

Latest article says any wallaby who signs will get banned from tests

Other countries could follow

Damage to their internationals would be massive even if it’s only a year or two

Players can sign with French union now and wallabies might still pick them if they want (think they are doing that now with will Skelton)

This will have a minor impact on league but a massive impact on union so on balance it’s worth it lol

Hopefully mate. I don't trust the ARU to hold the line on that though if they can get access to Lomax, Chrichton and others. But I certainly hope you are right

Union will always be Union and ban what they can’t control

Remember this is going head to head with super rugby with no teams in Aus or nz (after 2026)

Good luck for tonight by the way.

Funny thing is, this could be the back door to the NRL. Rugby players around the world will be getting banned from representing their nations and when this goes balls up.. there's the NRL.
That's the benefit to not banning players. We could end up with even more talent.

I get where you are coming from but can't see too many union players giving up what would most likely be a (much) bigger pay cheque in R360 to come to rugby league for a smaller pay cheque (and probably play reserves) just because they have been banned from playing for their country. If the top union players have gone to R360 I think there is more of a chance the union establishment will cave in and somehow come together with R360 much like ARL and Super League as there were no winners except for players, agents and lawyers that made money.

The unfortunate timing for the NRL is it will add two more teams in the next few years. On top of that, up to ten players will possibly go to r360. So the NRL needs to find around 70 players, not 60.

As for r360, i reckon the standard will be very average. With travel fatigue, adjusting to different timezones, sleeping patterns, esposure to infections, the players would be at higher risk of injury and illness.

Rugby League always finds a way.

In my lifetime the NRL accordingly to media reports already the NRL was most definitely going to be a farm league for the RFL Super League,
French Rugby Union, Japanese Rugby Union, World Rugby & the NFL already. This is just another one of those.

Not to mention lack of fitness from a lack of training.

Telegraph trying to talk up Payne Haas as a 360 target ..,

Interesting as they would need to pay him $2m plus a year and I don’t think his game translates to Union that well …

Think he played juniors at Brisbane high school could be wrong

He’s not going just wants to see what’s on offer

The kick and clap world players union has refused to back the comp

”According to the Telegraph the International Rugby Players Association has told its members that it does not support R360 nor does it give permission to allow any reference to the IRPA within any contract. Former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall told 200 players on Tuesday that funding had been secured for the first three years of R360.”

its rumoured the top players have been offered up to $1.5mill aus a year.

Payne hass having a chat too

Can’t see Munster leaving after they lost but he would be a great signing for union

Papps is shot the sooner he goes the better

“is masthead can reveal Munster is on rugby’s radar with the Storm champion also in the sights of R360 bosses in a bombshell development following Melbourne’s grand final loss to Brisbane on Sunday night.
The R360 revolution is targeting 10 NRL players, including Munster’s teammate Ryan Papenhuyzen, Payne Haas and Zac Lomax, and now the Queensland Origin skipper is on their hit list.
The rival code is eyeing off Munster on dual fronts.
It is understood the Storm playmaker fielded preliminary interest from a third-party associate with Australian rugby links in the lead-up to the NRL grand final.
No formal offer was made, but the secret approach to Munster’s camp has given the Origin and Test ace another career option.

Munster is off-contract with the Storm at the end of 2027 but Melbourne have confirmed they are open to an early release if the 31-year-old wants to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
The Perth Bears have identified Munster as a marquee signing for their entry in 2027 – and now R360 has emerged as another potential threat.
Munster is intrigued by the proposed rebel breakaway competition and is open to hearing from R360 bosses. The two-time premiership playmaker is happy at the Storm, but Melbourne face major salary-cap pressures to keep him beyond his current deal.
Contacted on Monday, Munster’s manager Anasta declined to comment on Rugby Australia links but addressed speculation R360 is circling his client, who has also been linked with new NRL franchise Perth.
“We haven’t been formally contacted by R360 but we have heard murmurs. Yes, there could be some interest in him,” Anasta said.

Peter V’landys gave his blunt thoughts on the R360 competition.
“Right now, Cameron is open to the Perth Bears.
“I know the Perth Bears are interested in him. They are open to signing him.
“Cameron hasn’t said I want to go to Perth, but the Storm are planning ahead and by the time he is off-contract again, they might not be able to afford him.”
Rugby Australia were successful in snaring Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii from the Roosters to bolster Australia’s 2027 World Cup campaign.
Former RA chairman Hamish McLennan confirmed to this masthead last year that he was contacted by an intermediary saying six NRL players were interested in defecting to play for the Wallabies, including Penrith maestro Nathan Cleary.
Munster could earn more in Australian rugby and has the skill set to succeed in the 15-a-side code.

Munster is on around $1.15 million this season at the Storm and won’t be accepting another pay cut after previously knocking back a massive $6 million, four-year deal to be the Dolphins’ marquee recruit in 2023.
The premiership playmaker was on the verge of quitting Melbourne at the end of 2022, only for the Storm to stave off Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins at the eleventh hour.
In August, Anasta said the Maroons pivot could play on until his mid-30s.
“Cameron didn’t go to the Dolphins and he took hundreds of thousands of dollars less, so he has done this before and stayed loyal,” Anasta said.
“That’s worth noting, because you can only take less for so long.
“Cameron would be worth a lot more on the open market, so it’s a decision we will look at down the track.
“It would be a big move to Perth, but if you look at all the other halves in the comp, you look at ‘DCE’ (Daly Cherry-Evans, aged 36) and ‘Reyno’ (Adam Reynolds, 35), those guys at their age, they are thriving and still demanding high dollars.
“I can’t see Cameron going backwards over the next few years.
“Cameron’s priority is to stay but even when he comes off contract, he still has a long way to go in his career.
“I can understand if or why Perth are interested in Cameron to be the face of the new franchise.
“He has come a long way, not only on the field but off it.
“He has captained Queensland and other players w
