The issue is. If, Kenny goes down. We are probably running a combo of Cogger/Scott next-year.

Another nine would be a wise purchase. Most clubs have 3 in their top 30's

We now live or die on Nathan so what's the point of a 7 on the bench? This blind spot of Ivan's cost us the Brisbane game and I'm REALLY hoping he learned from that.
We need a Salmon,Mann, Crossland type 14

I don't think that necessarily says that much about the archetype being overvalued though. It's just kind of how it shook out. The Storm were extremely close to winning this year and we've won as many premierships with a creative hooker as we have without one. Chad Townsend has won a premiership, doesn’t mean a good halfback isn't extremely valuable.

I'd probably go the other way and say it's more than defensive hookers are underrated. Does that mean creative hookers are overrated by default? Idk. I didn't get much sleep last night.

Of course im just taking the piss a little bit, the idea back then after Api left was we cant win without an elite hooker. Now not only have we won without Api the broncos have won with some bloke that wouldnt get recognised on caxton street playing hooker.

You don't release your two back up 9s to bring in Cogger.

Either they have huge confidence in Scott or we are going to the market. Plenty of time to find someone.

Yeah its like the back up full back situation. I dont know what the plan in beyond the club rating Scott and Jenson Tuai highly, but there is clearly a plan as the club could've easily kept sommerton if they wanted or felt they needed him but they let him walk like they let Daino walk.

Only left field option is a change of heart from the club. Ivan did say he wouldn't mind keeping him. But its a big clean out in reserves so I think the plan is already in motion. We say we are a development club. There is a limit to that, at some point you have to move on.

He needs to find a deal anywhere he can and put forward his case to play fullback for Perth in 2027. Even PNG in 2028. He is only 27 years old next year. So he has plenty of time left.

A mistake in hindsight to go to the Tigers for Daine. Pretty much no one in the past 10 years has benefitted from going to that club. I thought he was one of their best when he first arrived there but the toxicity of the whole place eventually gets to every player.

Its been a few years since then. There was a theory on these forums round that time you needed an elite attacking 9 to win. But 3 years straight since then and the two best hookers that fit into that category havent won and the recent hooker who did win was corey f**king paix.

A very good squad can carry an ordinary hooker - so long as the rest of the spine are weapons. Walsh is probably the best weapon in the game, the equal of prime Turbo and better than even a fit and motivated Latrell.

Latrell isn't in the top 10 fullbacks in the comp. He's a centre and always was a centre

His numbers are pretty good. Right up with Walsh's in 2025. So in that sense he is an excellent attacking fullback. Its his injuries and suspensions which hurt him.

Plus the fact that Souths still don't have two wingers who can cart the ball back to cover the yards on kick returns. Means their forward pack has to do more work and it simply hasn't been fit enough to do that. Their forwards have been injured all year.

The Broncos were top 3 for kick returns this year. If Souths want to be like the Broncos then they need to do a better job at covering Latrell's faults as a fullback the way the Broncos have with Walsh.

The biggest knocks on Walsh have been;

1. He takes too many and too big risks at the wrong times
2. He lacks defensive positioning and the fitness to be in the right place (23 GF)

I think he has put that to bed, in particular #2. You substitute Edwards for Walsh in that Broncos GF side and Melbourne would have scored an extra 2-3 tries (not to mention that Broncos would have scored 12-18 fewer points). Madge has done an excellent job with the Broncos and their fitness generally, but particularly with Walsh.

He had a very good run of form post-Origin no doubt.

I'll be keen to see how he fits into the Australian team. It won't be his team to run with Munster, Cleary and Grant in the side before he is picked. And Walsh has been playing his best football with the Broncos best halves combination out of the way (Mam/Reynolds).

Comparing Edwards and Walsh is apples and oranges. Couldn't be more contrasting.

He made some huge plays defensively but he was also mispositioned for Katoas try and made ordinary efforts for the Meaney and Hughes tries. He stepped up his overall energy enormously in the biggest game of his career, but I want to see much more from him before I consider his defensive issues resolved.

Bang on.

I think he is defensively very poor. Lots of balls hit the grass when should be caught by a good FB

Yeah but f**k he's fun to watch. Going to be great to see how Nathan uses him, he's never really had a talented attacking fullback to play with. Some might argue Teddy but he's just a hog.
