It appears that there will be franchises in far flung weird non rugby cities like Madrid, Chicago, Toronto etc...
Short form contracts were leaked last week.

players do not need to reside or even step foot in the location of their teams city (which is determined by draft). They travel to the games all expenses paid, and training camps at certain times. Maximum of 14 games per season. Can base themselves off shore for tax purposes like all the tennis players do.

it may turn out to be nothing, which is why I said IF the first season is a success, then the NRL are in trouble.

the NRL can’t do anything about players leaving who are off-contract.

Yes, that is all true as well.
I just can't see this thing working.
Rugby itself is strongly against it.
And, imagine still wanting to live in a specific location, and yet having to travel all around the world week after week, train, recover, and then travel to the next location again. The players would be f**ked.
However, until we hear more details, we just honestly don't know what is on offer.
My polite point was that I don't think this has any chance of decimating the NRL, as you suggested may be possible.

They also have an option to introduce a means of not tackling anywhere the head, thus reducing future CTE issues, etc.

If they nail that and can survive 2 or 3 generations, they'd likely become the dominant 'rugby' code.
WTF does that even mean? Isn't that already the rule in our game?

Cheers.

I suppose nothing will be announced well after Nov 1 though.

You'd think it would be announced before the 1st of November or at least the 3rd of November for the start of pre-season. Although Pezet probably has until the 1st week of December before he's due in.

Yeah, I wrote it in a rush... I am thinking more about a hybrid game, say like a rougher version of OzTag... not just penalising for high shots but maybe something that is somehow similar but still different to our game.

I reckon trying to change the existing game is going to damage the spectacle that it is but somehow they (the officials) need to remove or at least greatly reduce the incidence of head injuries. It wouldnt surprise me if a "new" game was developed under some hybrid rule model that didn't include any need to accidently or otherwise cause head injuries.

I remember maybe 10 years or so ago, OzTag went into partnership with the NRL to promote OzTag - I reckon there is a long term play to replace NRL in some form but it is going to take a very long time. Changing the NRL will lose welded on fans, a new game might not.

R360 has the chance to be that new game.
