We don’t even try a lot of time. We get fixated on passing long with no real plan, mostly because we’re stacked with ball watchers in centre

Popa is a possession-based manager, focusing mainly on defence, and then scoring on the break when the opportunity arises. He'd be disappointed at giving away possession so easily so often.

Anyway, that was a much improved 2nd half, even though we cheaply conceded a goal that cost us the match.
We could very easily have drawn or even won.
Against the world number 16th ranked team, that is not a bad result.

We definitely played better than we did versus Canadia.
You can definitely see Popovic’s style given we’re playing 5 backs, which when we have wingers (Bos & Miller) capable of getting up and back is fine.
The problem I see is we’re incapable of identifying or creating the correct breaks. Everything is long ball, “let’s see what that player can do against 3 defenders with no support”. It has its place but it’s not a game plan that will be effective long term. Nor do we have anywhere near the cattle to do it in attack. We need midfielders getting up in support so that the ball isn’t just coming back to where we kicked it.
This isn’t club football where Popovic can sign players to play his style. He needs to work with who we have.

And what’s really frustrating with rankings, it’s not like US were playing understrength (well until Pulisic got injured at least) yet for big parts we were better side, and we’re still missing (say what you will about performance/ability, they are still better than others we’ve been playing) Souttar, Yengi, Irvine, McGree, Velupillay.

Agree with most of that.
Where is Baccus btw? Injured?
He is a rock at DM and is excellent moving the ball forward. We need more like him.

He’s playing regularly for St Mirren.
I’m sure there’s some reasons why certain players don’t get play but I’d certainly have him over O’Neill. O’Neill didn’t need to travel but.

And I get the argument for regular game time but Garang Kuol is still kicking around.
And speaking of positional players that may be of use Segicic has been playing regularly.
Has Volpato definitely closed door? Also as soon as Irvine went down, I would’ve been on phone to Luongo to see if he wanted one last run at Cup

Izzo is in better form than Ryan.

I know he's our captain, and he's not the reason we lost, but Izzo has been keeping goal phenomenally, and didn't deserve to be dropped.

Yeah I thought Ryan was too tentative on both goals and a couple of other chances too

Tbh, I've never been a huge Mat Ryan fan - I've often felt he's too "placid" when engaging an attacking threat.

I don't feel Ryan is aggressive enough when closing down a gap, and he often second-guesses whether to come off his line, or not.

He's not likely to get dropped, seeing as he's our captain, but it's a shame, because Izzo was playing really well.

So Chelsea had a few first teamers on the bench and when they came on it was a different game. Chelsea 3-0 with five minutes to go. I feel for Ange.

Won't last the season imo
Ffs should have said wont last the month

39 days must be a PL record.

No idea why Ange took the job after the transfer window shut. As the style Ange wants to play needs to have players to fit that style.

I think the owner showed what a loose cannon he is when he sacked the previous manager after 4 games and was all a bit ridiculous if you ask me considering the results in the past 18 months Forest have had.

Anyway I doubt we see Ange again in the PL unless he goes to the Championship and gets a side promoted
