It’s lose-lose. If he does well it’s like damn this is hard to watch because he won’t be here much longer anyway. If he does poorly then it’s like why are we wasting our time? He’s not going to be cheap either. We could have used that money elsewhere.
Not to fill our biggest weakness for 2026, which is at five-eighth.
The biggest L is how weak we’re looking to the rest of the NRL. We’ve just announced that we’re happy to be a transit lounge for players. How is that good optics for a club looking to move upwards?
That's how we look to (some) fans. The rest of the NRL gives zero f**ks about that sort of thing.

1. Our five-eight options for 2026 are woeful.
2. We need a good player at 6 next year in order to continue the momentum and development of our fullback and both hookers.
3. We probably need a 6 who can also play well at 7, in case Moses gets injured or plays origin.
4. Are there any other 6"s on the market that would suit our current needs?
5. Jonah Pezet is NOT an unknown quantity. Our coach knows him very well. Ryles will know exactly what he will bring.
6. He won't block our junior halves pathways. In fact, with another year of first grade, our fullback and two young hookers will be in a much better position to accommodate a rookie 6 from our juniors if that needs to happen.
7. In my opinion, Papalii, Volkman and Hawkins are just reserve graders and fill-ins. We need something more substantial than that next year.
8. If we win more games next year and continue our development, we may be able to attract even better signings for 2027.
9. I'm disappointed we couldn't get Pezet for a longer deal (I think he will end up being a star) but one year will still suit our current needs admirably.
I like the signing (if true).

That doesn’t mean they are infallible
Do they need to be infallible to make good decisions? Or even better decisions than you or me?
or that signing Pezet is the best, or even a good decision.
Whether it's a good decision comes down to value, which is decided by how much he will get paid. Do you know that amount? Because the club does.
And it’s secret info fallacy to assume a person in power has more info than you about everything
Again, they don't need to have more information about everything to be better informed. They just need to know more than you and me, which they do. They have 100% of the contract info, as well as knowledge on availability of other players, and the NRL's rules about per-year contract variations.

If you're going to have an opinion about the club's decisions, you can't hold them to a higher standard than you hold yourself. They mightn't be as good as the management at some other clubs, and they certainly don't know everything, but they are far ahead of the fans in both those areas.

The point is Williams would still have been a good signing even if it was only for a year. The exception is if we were overpaying him (and we'll never know if that's the case). But if we are overpaying him, then a year would be better than multiple years.

Pezet will likewise be good value unless he is overpaid. How much will he be paid? The answer is we will never know, so why complain about it?

That wasn't the point of this conversation ffs and no he would not have been a good signing for only a year.

You need to watch the decisions he makes. That says a lot more about what he really thinks than whatever he says on a podcast.

I do watch his decisions and also listen to why he made them hence why I said ho listen to the poddy.

What you said makes absolutely no sense unless you like to talk BS.

We be fine Pezet will join our NRL side post Xmas and get a good half off season of training in to develop combinations with the squad and then will get a full offseason to.... Oh that's right...

Let's be very honest...what has Jonah Pezet actually done or achieved to be even talking about a $500k plus contract??
Nothing...again i maintain hes more a 7 than a 6
I got told last night that apparently Brisbane's offer is basically around what we are paying Moses.

Now obviously not all that is on the cap and has been topped up with some massive TPAs and Broncos dollars.

And to compete we would have had to give him around or more then Moses for 2027 which would have thrown our cap back out of whack.

What's Moses on 1.2mill allegedly.

Brisbane probably have Pezet for 800-900k on the cap with massive TPAs as a top up.

I still don't like we have done this deal for 2026.

I suppose at the end of the day we have a scapegoat from a fans perspective for whenever something goes wrong next year and every bad decision Pezet makes will be scrutinized the way Galvin was this year.

I only care about results during the season. The off season is for the likes of sixties and Forty20.

Can you really blame him for choosing them over us? I certainly can’t. He’s set up for a great life — living in Brisbane, a club that’s finally back where it belongs. On top of that, Reynolds will probably move straight into the coaching staff once he hangs up the boots, meaning he can continue to mentor him and guide his development throughout his career.

In truth, I think Pezet being an out-and-out halfback was always going to be a sticking point for us. We already have, arguably, the second-best number seven in the competition — and he’s locked in for at least another four years. There just wasn’t a realistic pathway for him here.

If Brisbane are that dumb to offer that much for a player who is essentially a rookie then good luck to them. Jeez I think the hype around Pezet seems to be excessive for someone who has only played a couple of handy games in probably the best system in the NRL.

I have another huge problem with this signing. Everyone (except Pou probably) will admit that Pezet plays more like a traditional 7 than a 6. Presumably next year he will still wear the 6 next season but play a lot of first receiver and mix things up with Moses.

I know Moses is a professional and he will do whatever is best for the team, but we are going to ask arguably the second best 7 in the game to change his role for 12 months to suit Pezets inclusion, then go back to being a dominant 7 the following season? Is that not potentially counter-productive for Moses's own development?

If we wanted a stop-gap I think it would have been better to find a player with similar qualities to Lorenzo (assuming he is the one they are banking on for 2027) and have the team start playing footy to suit in 2026.
