What the people buying the “spin” that this is a good thing as it allows Lorenzo to develop and not block his path are overlooking the fact we put a 4 year deal in front of Pezet. We wanted him long term, he said no, he wants to go a better club.

we didn’t give a shit about Lorenzo’s path being blocked until 2029 - so that tells you what you need to know about the clubs vision.

Lorenzo is plan b, and spinning it to make him look like plan A because we failed yet again to get the big fish we wanted doesn’t pass muster for anyone with a brain.
We signed an 18yo player to a 3 year contract so we certainly rated him on his CURRENT form hoping he'll improve. Pezet offered a 1 year deal and Ryles accepted that to improve us next year while Lorenzo hopefully improves. Ryles has already mentioned Lorenzo so certainly rates him but not for next year (and not Joash apparently) so this suits him as a stop gap measure.

Its just covering up for one of the most cuck deals ever made. They got played.

Probably I assume they dont have much faith in Volkan Hawkins or Joash to play 5/8 next season.

I wonder what the plan for NSW cup is next season...

If Lorenzo is the future he needs to be playing 5/8.
Joash needs to go back to fullback that leaves Twiddle the odd man out.

Hawkins has to be playing halfback that also leave Volkan the odd man out.

I am starting to come around to the deal now...

If we can get I to the finals it will give everyone experience and then hopefully the next season it's an easier transition for the new 5/8

Don’t know why , unless it’s Stockholm syndrome and you accepted that we can never do better

Pissant is just a rookie that had played a handful of games , not like he is a great half and will hit ground running … he will be like our guys from this season that past , learning on the job and may and I say may come good at the end . Also we doing a reverse bulldogs but without the benefit of keeping him like them with Galvin having him out of position.

One of my friend's made a great point yesterday. If Pezet was truly the next big thing at 7 why didn't the Storm hold onto him and allow Jarome Hughes to leave?

They'd know more about Pezet's value and ceiling better than all of us put together.

Munster and Hughes are both 31 keep them for another 4 years and the next half would have come through by then..
They should be chasing Cody Black from the Broncos.

Storm, Eels, Broncos: Every major domino that could fall from Jonah Pezet’s bombshell deal

Rising Storm gun Jonah Pezet’s imminent move to Parramatta and then Brisbane is set to trigger a dramatic chain reaction that will affect multiple stars at three of the NRL’s biggest clubs.

Jonah Pezet’s imminent move to Parramatta and then Brisbane is set to have major ramifications for three of the biggest clubs in the game.
Brent Read and Travis Meyn take a look at how the 22-year-old’s future is set to impact the three clubs at the centre of the biggest off-season move in the player market so far.

PARRAMATTA EELS

The Eels have made some smart moves under coach Jason Ryles and this may be another. While some may question the decision to give Pezet a short-term deal - many supporters questioned the decision after this masthead revealed the plan - there are clear positives for the Eels.
For starters, it means they have a ready-made partner for Mitchell Moses in the halves who gives them a better chance to win next season.
On paper, Pezet and Moses will form one of the classiest halves pairings in the NRL. It also buys the Eels 12 months to allow their young halves time to develop.
PARRAMATTA ROSETR ANALYSIS: Roadblock in phase 2 of Ryles’ rebuild
Parramatta have some of the most promising young playmakers in rugby league led by Joash Papali’i, Lorenzo Talataina and Lincoln Fletcher.
At some point, all three will be ready for first grade. Rather than throw them to the wolves, they will now have time to hone their craft.
Pezet will come to the club and hold the fort until they are ready to take over in 2027. So in effect, Ryles has given the club a great chance to win next season and helped ease the pressure on their emerging stars.

BRSBANE BRONCOS

Pezet’s arrival at Red Hill is set to throw the futures of nine Broncos players into the spotlight.
He has been signed with the view to succeeding halfback Adam Reynolds, who is expected to retire at the end of 2026.
Grand final five-eighth Ben Hunt hasn’t ruled out playing on in 2027 and was a chance to take over the No. 7 duties from Reynolds, but that could now change.
Emerging playmakers Coby Black and Tom Duffy are set to be fighting for their futures in Brisbane. Black has long been touted as Brisbane’s next halfback, but the signing of Pezet suggests the 19-year-old may not be developing as quickly as hoped.
Duffy is on a one-year trial with the Broncos in 2026 after leaving North Queensland and needs a big season to prove himself.

Billy Walters played a crucial role for Brisbane this season and is off-contract at the end of next year. Is his future in the halves or hooker?
If the latter, that would put Blake Mozer and Cory Paix under threat, especially if Hunt wants to play on and finds himself in the No.9.
Back-up playmaker Josh Rogers will fall down the pecking order of halves while Michael Maguire must decide how to best utilise grand final bench weapon Ezra Mam moving forward.
Either way, this is a huge signing for the Broncos if Pezet delivers on his promise and could set the Broncos up for long-term success with a red-hot spine including Reece Walsh at fullback.

Inside story: 80 minute finals performance, secret meeting sparked Jonah Pezet’s bombshell move

Jonah Pezet has orchestrated one of the most complex contract deals in NRL history on the back of one finals performance and a secret meeting with Brisbane a week after their grand final win over Melbourne.

Reigning NRL premiers Brisbane have stepped up their plans for life without Adam Reynolds after securing Melbourne gun Jonah Pezet — but only after he spends the next 12 months playing in the halves at Parramatta.
Pezet is on the verge of completing a remarkable career change, barely five weeks after he masterminded the Storm’s win over the Bulldogs in the opening week of the finals.
The classy half had interest from North Queensland, Canberra and the Gold Coast but has settled on a short-term move to Parramatta, where he will reunite with coach Jason Ryles and play alongside Mitchell Moses in 2026.
Pezet will then move to Brisbane at the end of next season after agreeing to terms on a long-term contract to compete for the Broncos’ No.7 jersey, which is expected to become vacant when Reynolds, 35, slips into retirement.
The signing of Pezet shapes as a huge boost for the Broncos and their coach, Michel Maguire, as they continue to celebrate the end of their 19-year NRL premiership drought.

Melbourne playmaker Jonah Pezet is on the move — and his career plan is wild. He’s leaving the Storm after their premiership win, heading to Parramatta on a one-year deal, then making a mega move to Brisbane to become Adam Reynolds’ long-term replacement. A huge win for Michael Maguire’s Broncos, and another hit for Craig Bellamy’s Storm.
Pezet will join a spine that already has Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam tied to long-term deals. The Broncos’ interest in Pezet was kept under wraps until last week when this masthead revealed that some of their rivals were concerned that the premiers would weigh in with a bid to sign the 22-year-old.
That became reality when Pezet flew to Brisbane last week for a secret meeting with the Broncos, and he is now expected to form a potent long-term combination with Mam, albeit after a short 12-month sojourn at Parramatta.
Pezet’s signature also shapes as a boost for Parramatta as they land a ready-made foil for Moses and allow their batch of emerging playmakers more time to develop.
The Eels have some of the best young halves in the game but the club had no desire to throw them to the wolves. Pezet allows them to bring those promising playmakers along slowly, which may prove more beneficial for their long-term development.
Jonah Pezet.

Jonah Pezet.
Parramatta had initially talked about taking Pezet on a one-year loan deal before sending him back to Melbourne. Rather than the Storm, he will now leave the Eels and pack his bags for the Broncos.
The news came as a blow to the Storm given Pezet’s final performance in a Melbourne jersey was one of his best.
The classy playmaker had patiently waited for his chance in Melbourne, where he was happy to learn his craft and train alongside some of the best players in the game.
That performance against Canterbury may have been the beginning of the end. It showed Pezet was ready for a regular spot in the NRL and it wasn’t going to come in Melbourne given the current circumstances, where Jahrome Hughes has an iron-clad grip on the No.7 jersey and Cameron Munster — currently in England with the Kangaroos — has two years remaining on his contract.
Pezet’s only hope would be if Munster was to move to fullback or become one of Perth’s inaugural signings.
That would have required more patience and Pezet wasn’t prepared to wait. Not any longer. He told the Storm in the week after the grand final that he was enacting a clause in his contract that allowed him to go to market if the club extended the contract of Hughes, which they did that in the lead-up to the finals.
The Cowboys, Raiders and Titans were among the clubs to flag an initial interest in Pezet but Parramatta proved the most attractive before Brisbane entered the equation and flexed their premiership muscle.
Their victims in the grand final were the Storm. The loss of Pezet rubs salt into the wounds given the Storm and coach Craig Bellamy did their best to convince him to stay.

However, Pezet ultimately decided his career would be best served elsewhere, a decision which will have ramifications not just for Melbourne, but also potentially the Perth Bears.
There was a school of thought that if Pezet stayed, the Storm would consider giving Cameron Munster permission to speak to the Bears ahead of their addition to the NRL in 2027.
However, any hope the Bears had of signing Munster for their inaugural season would appear to be gone given Pezet’s departure.
With Pezet’s future determined, the focus remains on the Storm as they wait to resolve the future of fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen.

NRL world reacts to Jonah Pezet’s bizarre deal with Parramatta and the Broncos

The revelation of Jonah Pezet’s contracts with two NRL teams has rocked the sport, with many pointing fingers at one Sydney club.

There has been an intense reaction to Jonah Pezet’s move to sign with two NRL clubs, with plenty of the vitriol pointed directly at the Parramatta Eels.
Highly sought after Storm playmaker Pezet will move to the Eels next season.

Yet in a wild twist it’s only a 12-month rental in Sydney, with the 22-year-old also agreeing to terms with the Brisbane Broncos on a longer-term deal from 2027 onwards, as first reported by CODE Sports.

Pezet is signed with the Storm until the end of 2029, but a clause in his contract allows him to explore his options given halfback Jahrome Hughes recommitted to the club through 2030 earlier this year.

Pezet, who impressed filling in for an injured Hughes in this year’s qualifying final, will partner Mitchell Moses in the halves at the Eels and play under coach Jason Ryles.

But in a major boost for the Broncos, Pezet is set to be Brisbane’s next long-term halfback, with Adam Reynolds expected to retire at the end of next season.

The Broncos also have 19-year-old half Coby Black in their ranks, but Pezet is more advanced in his career.

The moves have shaken the foundation of the NRL and brought strong reactions in the social media world.

Scott Pryde, sports editor at Zero Digital Media, didn’t hold back, tweeting: “I’ve had a lot of respect for what Jason Ryles has done at Parra.

“His way or the highway. You’re either on board or you’re not, doesn’t matter how much money you’re on.

“If this Pezet thing proves to be correct, he has just bombed a fair bit of that respect.”

Sports commentator Zane Bojack wrote on X: “I am a Coby Black believer.. but Broncos HQ have been luke warm on him for a while.. must be honest I didn’t see this coming.. knew Pezet was going to Parra.. didn’t see Brisbane getting him in 27.. I know Perth Bears were very keen on Jonah too.. more keen on him than Munster.”

The CODE NRL account posted: “It could be the most bizarre contract situation in NRL history, with Storm playmaker Jonah Pezet set to sign for the Eels AND the Broncos.”

The League Scene podcast offered: “Absolute carnage in the player market with Jonah Pezet set to sign with Parramatta for 2026 before moving on a longer-term deal to Brisbane in 2027 to succeed Adam Reynolds.

“This leaves highly touted Coby Black in a precarious position.”

X account Parra Eels Facts wrote: “Unless you think Pezet gets you a premiership in 26, signing him for just 1 year is madness.”

There were similar reactions among footy fans.

Junior footy coach Chris Ryan tweeted: “Jonah Pezet signing with 2 clubs at once is a complete farce. This should be the nail in the coffin for the @NRL allowing players to sign a year-plus in advance and playing for one club whilst already signed elsewhere. Time for change.”

Marnus Magoulias said: “Terrific work Broncos, Anasta and the Pezet camp if the reports are correct. Can’t wait to see young Jonah and Coby battle it out for the 7 jersey.

“On the other hand, I must say this is an absolute indictment on the Parramatta football club. What on earth are they thinking...”

Another footy fan wrote: “I refuse to believe this Pezet deal is happening because I’m incapable of imagining why something so dumb would happen in real life.”

It’s one of the stranger contract situations in recent memory and will leave Pezet in an interesting position from the day he first wears Parramatta blue and gold.

Well no i don't blame him and competing with Brisbane is impossible really on a TPA level for most Sydney clubs.

I still reckon our front office ain't doing enough with big corporates in Parramatta and figured out a system yet that clubs like Roosters, Broncos have setup to facilitate TPAs for players at arms length with business lined up ready to go.

Like we have the 2nd biggest CBD in Sydney for goodness sake and big business are moving into Parramatta. With a world class stadium one of the best in the game.
So what will the front office learn on the fact finding tour of the UK, that they are currently on, perhaps they should do that at the Roosters, aBroncos and Dogs to enable them to compete in their own market and sport. Just a sensible thought.

Also, with us having so many promising young halves, signing Pezet may have meant that we lose one or 2 of them to Bears or Chiefs.

If this pans out it would have been a very hard decicion to make as not all juniors make it. They must be some pack of junior halves that we have for Ryles to make this decision. Surely he had the final say.

Let's say we dont sign Pezet for 12 mnths next season, what are our other options for an NRL quality half, albeit inexperienced, that is equal to or better than Pezet ?
They have been aware of the hole in that position since the start of the 2025 season, imagine clubs like our peers doing nothing until the end of the season. Of course DCE hasn’t signed anywhere, he would be more useful than someone who has played relatively few NRL games with most coming off the bench.

Hope it works for the club, if Pezet nails it we gain no benefit after 12 months, if he is ordinary, then the critique on him will be negative. Said it before, Gibson said success starts in the front office, he wasn’t wrong many times.
