Just read this, terrible news… he still had plenty of years in the breeding barn in front of him.

SYT will always be one of my faves. That Spring he won the Cox Plate was pretty much the first carnival that I really started to get into my ponies and he was a massive part of that.

It was hard not to be caught up with him, this striking black horse, trained by Bart gets taken to the front of a Cox Plate and runs a good field into the ground. Then I remember he came back next prep first up and beat Shoot Out and Typhoon Tracey and then everyone realised he was a serious animal.

Went to the Europe and performed against the best over there as well.

I’ll never forget a quote from Steven Arnold at the time he was riding him, someone had said to him that he’s a gun horse and Arnold replied ‘yep you have to wipe your shoes before you jump on this fella’ never forgot that haha
I was at Flemington on derby day in ‘10 when he won the mackinnon. Just stood in awe watching him then absolute loaded up on cup day despite how poorly weighted he was only to watch him get run over by American and maluckyday in the last 100m. Absolute champ.

When so you think won on debut, my old man had shares in a horse that was one of the favourites in the race. It didn’t have much luck in the run home and finished 3rd or 4th and we were spewing. Turned out to be an absolute donkey so naturally It become a running gag after that it took a pretty good one to beat him on his day because 7starts later syt was lining up for his second cox plate and the old man’s horse was running around at Northam getting its ass handed to it

Was a grey horse. Can’t remember its name.

The form behind So You Think was always outstanding.

Beat Snow Fairy in the 2011 Irish Champion Stakes. Snow Fairy came back and won the Irish Champion Stakes in 2012.

Beating Farhh in the 2012 Prince of Wales Stakes, Farhh won the Qipco Champion Stakes in 2013.

Beat home Nathaniel in the 2011 Qipco Champion Stakes; Nathaniel won the 2012 Coral Eclipse Stakes.

In the 2011 Qipco Champion Stakes, he ran a close second to Cirrus des Aigles; in the 2012 Qipco Champion Stakes, Cirrus des Aigles ran a close second to Frankel.

Beating Reliable Man in the 2012 Prince of Wales Stakes, Reliable Man won the 2013 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia by the length of the straight.

One of my fave horses post-2000, one of the first FB groups I ever joined was an SYT appreciation page…
Think It Over & Think About It the standouts of his recent progeny…his will to win replicated in their respective careers

Vale SYT

I’d never really thought much about it but you take it for granted that he sired an Everest winner!

Generally you think that he was a better sire of Mares than Colts also but Think It over and Think About It were probably his two best horses. Shame neither kept their plums.

The first SYT horse I remember having ability was a 2-year-old colt called Rivo Boy. Unfortunately, he died after only two starts, finishing 3rd on debut behind Divine Prophet (who later won the Caulfield Guineas) and Sezanne (who would later place in the Flight Stakes), and then finishing 4th behind Yankee Rose (who would later place in the Cox Plate behind Winx) in the Group 1 Sires.

I always wondered if he would have been SYT's best horse based on the form out of his 2 races and the fact SYT's progeny usually got better with age.

My dad was on the rails Kingston Town had his first race start at Canterbury.

He came last by 40 lengths, my dads comment to his buddy was "how would you like to be feeding that donkey"

LOL!! He never lived it down for the next 8 years working there, in his defence his did say he's a stunning looking horse i can't believe he's so slow. He loses his nuts and never loses another race in Sydney lol.

Speaking of Cox Plates honestly what an ordinary edition this year, SYT would have won by 6.
Nepotism actually had a flashing light in the guineas but I’m convinced this crop of 3yos are mostly trash. QLD have won everything else so I might just back my old mate Antino and then turn my attention to derby day.

hopefully the new moonee valley will be better than this shit hole
