The current deals including some games shown on fta in nz
Yes ..but through Sky right ? Trying to find a hypothetical competitor for Sky to potentially make them pay more for the rights…. Seems unlikely I see now

FTA, you have a point - but subscription has some money there.
The interesting aspect will be whether Sky is the only subscription bidder in our market.
If Sky is unopposed (and I can't see DAZN let along ESPN/Disney making a run at the NZ market alone), then there's no competitive pressure on the bid - so it would help the NRL to have something new & appealing to get them to lift their price. Basically NZ 2.

He played against the Warriors lower grade team as a 13 year old so they would have known about him if they had wanted him.Need to see more of this and more by the warriors not the Aussie clubs
Spark went bust
Nz union deal was cut around 30 percent by sky recently
Doomsayers on here have said sky nz will too for nrl
Competitor is potentially Dazn they want to enter nz
And also get the super league tv rights
Pvl is England now it may explain his interest in owning part of super league
Yeh I posted it on the Vegas threadMascord says NRL will kick at Wembley after Vegas deal is done. Both comps at same event under NRL umbrella?!
Yeh I posted it on the Vegas thread
Who knows with mascord if it’s true the times don’t work
Pvl wants super league for a reason though and I reckon it’s bc of their tv rights
Remember super league already plays a game in Vegas so taking it to Wembley makes more sense for the pommie fans
He said he’s worried about the game dieing in England … which it won’tIf you have the biggest tv product in the Pacific you can leverage that to try and get better deal for your other product. Maybe he is just interested in keeping UK strong for ashes?!
He said he’s worried about the game dieing in England … which it won’t
We don’t make much from English tours either so it’s not being selfish
He said if nrl did own it they wouldn’t make money on it either which I didn’t like
Aussie players get money for playing in ashes in England but nrl doesn’t make anything it’s all the rfl to keep
Super league with the expansion is in a good spot now
If they can get the tv deal back to where it was they can go places
Was that in paywall article he writes?!
That was Pvl that said that in an article a few months backThanks. Where did he say "if nrl did own it they wouldn’t make money on it"?!

My bad if I worded my post poorly
Mascord just said nrl was going to Wembley
PVL thinks outside the box though. I'd imagine he would, A) pitch an increase based on extra content (NZ2), B) say that extra content is contingent on Sky upping their offer and C) play the NZ bid off against an Australian one so that there are stakes for Sky... Essentially do you want the extra NZ content or not and what will you bid to secure it.Good point, and unless we have DAZN or ESPN/Disney or someone bidding for NZ rights, Sky won't significantly raise their offer.
In that case (no other pay TV/streaming bid), the NRL would need more NZ-focused content (eg a 2nd NZ team) to offer Sky something new & appealing to the NZ market that could encourage more money from Sky.
If you believe that. The opposite must be true.Sounds like pvl is trying to establish negotiating position

It's the Warriors what do you expect? The Maori team he was playing for in the match I mentioned beat the Warriors U14 team which is supposed to be the best kids out there.
Maybe they should’ve taken another look recently ?
Without wanting to get into another endless loop shitfight, but the question needs to be asked, what is the commercial case for Sky paying more, and why would they not try to pay less since there's no competition for the rights? How is that doomsaying? The reality is, despite the commentary in this thread, that the flagship league team in NZ doesn't outrate the ABs, and doesn't outrate the big Super matches each week.Nz union deal was cut around 30 percent by sky recently

I thought that was a union comp judging by op commentsIt's the Warriors what do you expect? The Maori team he was playing for in the match I mentioned beat the Warriors U14 team which is supposed to be the best kids out there.
Also that commentary on that tiktok is a bit dippy "it's fair to say he didn't play a lot of league growing up" and then proceeds to show three videos of him playing league and talking about him being signed at a league tournament. The comments underneath are funny "he wont get that space in league", half the highlights are league.![]()

Also, if DAZN really wanted to make a play for NZ wouldn't they have taken a decent shot at the rugby? Is there tactic to chip away at the little sports before going after rugby? Not sure if it makes sense as this year was probably the cheapest they could have got rugby.
