We need to find a way to slot in regular games between Samoa and Tonga, watching Tonga and Samoa over the past 7-8 years is basically the most I’ve enjoyed league in I don’t know how long. It’s what the game is all about.

Would love a regular series between the 2 like origin (though yeah I know that leaves NZ high and dry).

We have to ensure that we do not over-milk what is essentially a great product though.
Too much of a good thing isn't necessarily the right way to go.
Today was absolutely amazing though and a day in Brisbane no one could ever have dreamed of just 5 years ago.
I watched from Sydney on tv, and some of those tv shots were amazing, the likes of which that we don't even see in Origin.
The pre-match. The flags, the singing, the amazing crowd scenes when Samoa scored. It was not only great television, but great theatre.
Keep it as an in-demand product. Once a year at best.
I'd love to see just one attempt at Accor one year. Besides the 40 000 or more Tongans or Samoans, I reckon a shite load of neutrals would turn up. I'd certainly go.

We would need to shorten the NRL season. We should have a Australia vs NZ and Tonga vs Samoa two match series every year much like Union does with the Bledisloe.

The way I see it, if you can get rid of two NRL rounds, that's two extra International games you can add, so five games all up.

For a season like this year where we play the Ashes, you could have:

Australia vs NZ in Australia
NZ vs Australia in NZ

Then Australia travel to England and play a three match series against England.

100% shorten the NRL season for the benefit of international RL.

Trans-Tasman test series mid-season.

australia and New Zealand alternate tour to England??

Fair call. I think ultimately what we need is just more international footy. I agree you can overmilk it but we've gone the total opposite direction where the international game barely exists. Hopefully over the next few years we can can see a little bit more of it. The pacific in particular has so much promise between Australia, NZ, Tonga, Samoa, PNG and Fiji.

Anyone remember this? I wonder what happened to the game in Russia these days!

Rugby league drew a large crowd of 35,000 in Russia for a 2002 international match between Russia and the USA. This attendance was a result of a period of significant rugby league development in Russia following the fall of the Soviet Union, which had generated considerable enthusiasm for the sport.

Russian rugby league was funded by a rich oligarch

Then the Russian league federation did something that annoyed him and he walked away

Something minor and they were stupid for doing it
