How much will it really promote league in NZ? Origin has been big in NZ since the early 90s.

I'm with @BeaversHeadgear it's an Aussie thing. However, if it causes the idiotic eligibility rules to be fixed then it's worth it.
What is the fix for the eligibility rules though? Opening up Origin to Kiwis, or closing it down for Pasifika's?

Open it up if they want to keep the Pasifika nations strong, if they want to create an annual series between the Roos and Kiwis then close it down.

I don't care either way, I just want it to be fair.

Depends on what you’re trying to fix (or preserve) I guess.

Origin’s their cash cow and I think that’ll be their main motivation when tinkering with things - not preserving the history of the series, or ensuring NZ and England aren’t “left behind” or honouring players’ heritage… it’ll be about revenue and how to maximise eyeballs to protect their golden goose.

Opening things up is the best way to do that so probably no surprise that’s what V’Landys hinted at a few months back.

I've been reading the NZ news websites and the comment sections aren't very favourable due to the govt financial contribution to SOO (yep, I know comments sections aren't always representation). I can understand some of the argument, would the govt chip in for a cricket match between Oz and India to be played in NZ, doesn't seem likely, so why chip in for a game between two Aussie states?

The PI's are also copping some bad press too with a bunch of arrests after the game yesterday and the booing of the haka by Samoan fans last week.

Should be a celebratory time for league in NZ but seems like the media has decided to balance out being cheerleaders for the Warriors the last few years.
