no real money pushing for it, no government endorsements like papua and perth had, all existing hub and equity like say phins had.

their bids were from a bloke who has been cast out from the game (kea) and another bloke who is a known liar (orcas). maybe that 3rd bid had merit, who knows.
Perth can’t get tens cents for a stadium build and nor can png whilst chch has a 700 million stadium plus a promise of a coe

Orcas also promised to invest millions each year into junior academies over nz

Perth had Cummins behind it and everyone on here has been saying how corrupt png is

Nz is a stronger bid than Perth or png so I hope Pvl doesn’t stuff it up by going with Ipswich

I think it'll end up being the Perth model where the NRL own it initially.

That's a good point too about those 2 bids, nothing wrong with the bids, good bids but perhaps Valandy's saw red flags in those operators.

Peak offseason has been officially reached now with articles about Vossy’s opinion about decisions ( PNG) made a year ago… unless he thinks the decision can be changed ?

He made this case before those decisions were made. He's been an advocate for a second NZ team for a long time now .
Somewhere in this thread I posted it.

the article was posted this morning … I assume about something he said on his radio show today?
Do you think anything will change and they will admit NZ to the comp before the other two as per the headline ?

I don’t have a problem with what he says to fill three hours of radio time … but it’s a pretty pointless discussion ( and article) at the end of rhe day right?

Edit - I’ll also add that he is a critic of PNG … so this is probably another avenue to beat that drum ..

Devils advocate here but orcas promised what by who? a known liar? c'mon cob ya know better than that. you coming off abit like a sucker with believing these "promises" from these peacock feathered entrepreneurs

how is nz stronger than the perth bid that won with state gov funding to grass roots, invaluable tv time slot addition, brand strength and nrl own the franchise or papua bid that won with $600m fed gov cash (really $240m) pouring into it and nrl own the franchise?

nz dollar is useless, papua will be getting cash in aus dollar, while the nz bids have been fronted by numpties. nrl dont care for these private models, they're clearly not sustainable from the get go. i reckons they need a surer model. nz need to combine bids, bring in some sort of public trust account combined with private investment and perhaps some sort of government commitment to rl in schools or something then they'll be there.

now i thinks nz should definitely get another club for sure but nz warriors with all their hype and fan fare suck at turning over a profit, their tv money contribution isn't that strong overall so what metrics you using? crowds and juniors? if thats the case then another qld team is equal except another qld team adds sponsor money to the pot.

western bears sucked so nrl punted that and own the franchise and nrl looked at a better model that would work. i also think theyll get their stadium upgraded. bears been on here saying itll come its in the works just not in public. who knows though

Pvl did actually meet with the orcas owners briefly

I don’t like chalmers but he might be telling the truth and if he is it’s a blockbuster bid

The media in wa hate the bears

I still would’ve added the Perth bears just not before nz2

Nz2 offer everything

Stadium
Juniors
Help the warriors to grow like the dolphins have with the broncos
Nz derby games
Nz tv deal
Stronger kiwis test team
And the flow on to rugby union losing what is the jewel in their crown which is New Zealand

If chalmers is a liar then sure the arl can own it. But an nrl license is worth around 100 million I’m sure nz investors would pay for it

They literally said they would pay a license fee of 60 million

I think the delays in the png and Perth nrl bids meant time ran out for nz and now it will have to wait for the tv deal and negotiations on the salary sap and club funding which will take all of next year at least

PNG offer similar to nz2 in terms of growing club and internationals but nz2 will be competitive far more quickly

Nz tv deal is worth tens of millions a year

The headline is misleading. Nobody said that.
Like I said, this has been his position for a long time.

Isn't all radio pointless discussion?
He's paid for his opinion, it's an honest and consistent one at that.

They Always blame the editor that sets the headline !
I’m talking about this article though …. About what he said today ( I assume )
"I just think we’ve missed an opportunity to have a second New Zealand team right now."

What he said today.
I don't know what you think he said.

A second NZ team is a must as team 20 base them out of the south island of NZ in Christchurch ( new stadium ready by 2026) - South Island Pacifica

in saying this i still think the PNG bid should be shared between PNG & Far North Queensland - Base players in Cairns or even Darwin & play most games out of PNG - Northern Chiefs

20 teams

4 pools of 5 teams

play each team once (19 rounds) then play again teams in your pool (4 rounds) total 23 rounds , no bye weeks

mid season break for rep season -
NRLW S.O.O played Thursday Nights - Best of 3
NSW vs QLD Best of 3 - Play Friday Nights
Test Footy - NZ vs GB best of 3 - Play Saturday Nights
Pacific Cup - Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, PNG - play each other once , ladder leader name Pacific Champs - Double Header Sunday Rep Footy

top 8 finals series works well as is

You may as well go the whole hog now and base them in PNG and see how it looks …. The Aussie taxpayer is covering it …

4 Days isn't too bad. I thought you'd be longer.
And no, the hype around Origin in NZ hasn't died down yet.
You told us it would never go to NZ because the NZ government would never pay for it..
Wrong again chump.
I don't think I did, I think you're conflating me with Te Kaha talking about funding NZ2?

I said Origin was already big in NZ.

There was more interesting things to discuss about NZ league in the NZ forum in the last few days rather than dealing with your alternate universe. But I found it funny a poster suggested calling one the whitest parts of NZ a Pasifika team.

I also agree with Vossy, NZ2 should be happening now, I think the NRL is missing the boat.

In the absence of Steve Mascord, Voss is one of the most expansion-minded folk in the NRL media... which historically was like being the tallest person at a dwarf convention, but in the current climate it's right in keeping with the NRL's focus.
