Devils advocate here but orcas promised what by who? a known liar? c'mon cob ya know better than that.
how is nz stronger than the perth bid that won with state gov funding to grass roots, invaluable tv time slot addition, brand strength and nrl own the franchise or papua bid that won with $600m fed gov cash (really $240m) pouring into it and nrl own the franchise?
nz dollar is useless, papua will be getting cash in aus dollar, while the nz bids have been fronted by numpties. nrl dont care for these private models, they're clearly not sustainable from the get go. i reckons they need a surer model. nz need to combine bids, bring in some sort of public trust account combined with private investment and perhaps some sort of government commitment to rl in schools or something then they'll be there.
now i thinks nz should definitely get another club for sure but nz warriors with all their hype and fan fare suck at turning over a profit, their tv money contribution isn't that strong overall so what metrics you using? crowds and juniors? if thats the case then another qld team is equal except another qld team adds sponsor money to the pot.
western bears sucked so nrl punted that and own the franchise
Pvl did actually meet with the orcas owners briefly
I don’t like chalmers but he might be telling the truth and if he is it’s a blockbuster bid
The media in wa hate the bears
I still would’ve added the Perth bears just not before nz2
Nz2 offer everything
Stadium
Juniors
Help the warriors to grow like the dolphins have with the broncos
Nz derby games
Nz tv deal
Stronger kiwis test team
And the flow on to rugby union losing what is the jewel in their crown which is New Zealand
If chalmers is a liar then sure the arl can own it. But an nrl license is worth around 100 million I’m sure nz investors would pay for it
They literally said they would pay a license fee of 60 million
I think the delays in the png and Perth nrl bids meant time ran out for nz and now it will have to wait for the tv deal and negotiations on the salary sap and club funding which will take all of next year at least
PNG offer similar to nz2 in terms of growing club and internationals but nz2 will be competitive far more quickly
Nz tv deal is worth tens of millions a year
